Drifting with slip bobbers on Winni?

I was thinking for trying a weighted slip bobber while drifting the flats on Winni. Thinking if I put a smaller jig with weight above it while drifting slow in 18fow or less? Water is usually very clear so should be safe staying 2-3 ft. off bottom. Looking for another option to just dragging a jig. Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

Interesting thought…While I am typically jigging my dad does that and I wouldn’t say that he out-fishes me but he does well doing that! Minnow or leech would be great. A lazy man’s way of fishing I always tell him! RR

You could do it. I’m just confused why you wouldn’t like jigging on Winnie? All year I look forward to the shallow jig bite up there in the spring. We have trolled crankbaits early in the year and done well too.

One of the guys in our group slip bobbered last year while the rest of us jigged. He did get some fish, but not as many and the majority were perch.

What colors you like to run on the cranks? How fast?

    Thanks.

Husky Jerks work the best in the Spring. I keep the speed between 1.5-2 mph and then pump the rod. Firetiger was good last year, but I think it depends on the light conditions. In June and July, we’ve gone up there and trolled Flicker shads as fast as 3 mph and caught fish.

Just another option….I do get lazy at times, and was thinking that this may be THE ticket at some point. A few years ago my father-in-law tried tiger eye jigs and outfished everyone by a mile. Thought this could be one of those times when something outside the box works.

BTW, I wasn’t trying to shoot down your idea. You never know. Two years ago on opener we were rigging and I couldn’t catch a fish. We were backtrolling and I was driving. My Dad and Brother were catching a bunch of fish, but not me. I threw out a bobber and just started making large circles around it. They both kept catching fish and I finally was able to catch a few.
