I tried the 8/1 on one rod for about a week. Got a few wind knots and vowed to never use it again. Once it knots, you have no hope of getting it out due to how thin the line is. I also just didn’t like the way it fished. I didn’t find the 10/2 to have as many problems, but I like the 15/4 best.
2# difference is not much, the thinner the diameter the line, the better. It’ll help casting distance as well. This season, I have downsized the # test on many of my setups, and have seen better performance already. Hope this helps…
I see the 8# listed on the website, but have never seen it in stores. Are you tying direct or barrel w/mono/floro leader?
just my .02 cents, but have been using the 15/4 since I made the switch to super line. If in stained water I will tie direct, if in clearer water(canada) I will tie on 6-8 ft of 10 lb floro with a uni to uni knot. this eliminates the swivel and you can real the knot through the rod guides. It holds up to 25-35 pound cats on walleye gear!

Normally, the thinner the better, but when braid gets too thin it can dig into the spool, creating problems. I’ll stick to 10lb PP myself. I have been running 6lb 832 with very few issues though.
