I’m in the market for a another Walleye rod. It will be used mainly for jigging on the river and some lakes fishing. I’d like to keep it under $100 if possible.
Any decent rods for that price range?

One can’t have enough Limit Creek rods in their boat IMO
X2
If it’s primarily a vertical jigging rod, it’s hard to beat the Eyecon 63MXF. If you’re going to be doing some pitching also a longer rod in the 6’8″ or 6’9″ size range works better.

The eyecon series are nice rods in a great price range. Also look at the Shimano Compre series, may be a little more but they are great rods. All my jig rods are Compres, they range from 5’9″ to 6’8″

St. Croix Eyecon or Shimano with my preference at that price range leaning towards Shimano. With all due respect both are better rods and have a better warranty than the Limit Creeks with the Shimano rods around that price point offering a life time warranty. Eyecon’s have a 5 year warranty. LC’s have a 3 year.
Two other rods that I would seriously look at are from Quantum. For whatever reason, Quantum doesn’t get much press on their higher end line of rods in the midwest. I switched over a couple years ago to the Quantum Superlites. I made the migration from G.Loomis, to Kistler, then to Quantum. For me, I couldn’t have more pleased with my selection of rods.
Last year, Quantum re-designed the superlites and placed them in the Smoke Series of products. Incredibly lightweight and sensitive.

I have an extra white rod u can have…
Somehow your selection of Little Mermaid rods doesn’t interest me.
Was at the Madison Fishing Expo today. Bought a 66MLF Fenwick HMG for $48. Not a bad deal.
Okuma has some really nice new rods called the “Dead Eye” rods. They’re IM32 and priced around $80. They’re pretty nice also.
Eyecon 6’3 MLXF. I have one paired with an okuma reel and 10# powerpro hi-viz braid, by far my favorite rod ever. It is great for 1/16 to 1/4 jigs. If you jig 3/8 a lot you will need to step up to the Medium.
I bought mine off ebay, brand new for $90 shipped to my door from a company in st. cloud I believe.

Make sure the guides are Braid ok if you use superlines. I had a fenwick that I used for 2 seasons and the braid sliced up the top 3 guides. I wont buy another fenwick until they put some guides on there that will handle braid. Tired of the guides slicking up my line.
With Shimano’s over-the-counter, lifetime warranty, that places like Thorne Brother’s host, how could one not purchase a Compre or Clarus?
Sure saves on shipping out of pocket to-from St. Croix, only to be told that the rod broke because of your own fault (out $30 to be told that, plus still don’t have a fishing rod). If that happens 3 times with St. Croix, you can own a 2nd compre free!
I’m not sponsored by anyone, but having atleast half-dozen rods break over the 30 years of fishing, I sure can attest to life-time, over-the-counter warranty benefits!!!!!!

Good point. I broke the tip on my Clarus. It was totally my fault. I took it to Thorne Bros to see if they could fix it, put a new guide on the end or whatever. He grabbed one new off the shelf and gave it to me. I told him it was my fault and a gift and probably not even purchased there and I still walked out with that new rod. Great service and great warranty program.

I have done that with a few St. Croixs… I think it cost me like 50$ for a brand new rod from Thorne cause of their warrenty program.. Not sure if its still like that, herd it may be changing.
Interesting that this thread went to warrantees…That puts a different qualifier on the choice… I’ll just go on the under $100 for jigging original question…as I have been fortunate to have broken few rods in my 50+ years of fishing….
for under $100 I’d strongly consider the TFO Walleye series by Gary Loomis along with the Limit Creeks, Shimanos and Eyecons…I had a client with one in the boat last spring and it was a very nice rod…
I will be testing a new 2012 LC 66MF in a few weeks on the Fox river alongside my pet vertical jig(plastics) rod, a Croix AVS 63MLXF. I’ll post a report.
I’m loving the limit creek rods I own. I find more and more uses for them everyday, cant beat them for the price. IMHO
I’ve tried quite a few different rods and for the money, I think the Shimano Clarus is a great buy. I fish the 7′ medium, fast action, the 6’8″ medium xfast, and just bought a 6’6″ medium xfast this morning for $60.00. I can’t stand setups that are tip heavy and these rigs balance out well with the Daiwa Exceler 2000 or an equivalent spinning reel. I’ve been rebuilding my arsenal after having all of my gear stolen out of my garage last summer… I think the Clarus series has helped me get more for my $$$.
