Fish of a lifetime

RyanK, Somnio, and I did a quick 4 hour run up to Mille Lacs to put the hurt down on some big walleye.

We had about an hour in the car to come up with a game plan. Reading our Navionics and Lakemaster chips, we focused our efforts on shallow water edges adjacent to deep water and posted up 2 houses, one in 16 FOW and one in 18 FOW.

Well – our hopes came true and Alex roped into this monster walleye who tapped at 30″ even.

Truly a fish of a lifetime out of Mille Lacs Alex!

Chartreuse and gold rattling flyer tipped with a minnow head was the bait that convinced this fish it was time to come out of the hole, couple of quick pictures and back down the hole for another lucky angler to catch someday.

    Congrats again Alex!

I should have tried to talk Alex into letting me keep that fish. Those would have been some nice fillets.

    WHAT?!?!

Everyone knows that you cut a fish like that into steaks

Nice fish guys. You could have taken a few nice sides and had some cheeks to get after some fighting fish left over. You will never regret releasing a fish like that. I’ve got a few on my wall that I look at and question why I didn’t let them go. All they do is collect dust now.

The mental video of that fish shimming it’s body up the 8 inch hole has been looping in my head since Friday. From now on I will be packing a change of pants as I almost needed a new pair twice… The first time Jakob measured it… and the second time he measured it. haha

Thanks again Jakob for the assist. apparently the “After the night bite-bite” is worth the drive on occasion . We didn’t even make it to the lake until 9pm that night.
