so the gates or w/e it they are have been shut off in my neck of the woods on the miss which caused an endless amount of slackwater in my regular walleye hotspots. fishing went from great to sub fair pretty quick for me. should i be moving areas to find more current or should i try a different presentation rather than pitching jigs? i’m still catching some but the numbers/size just aren’t there later in the day.

    thanks.

One general rule that I live by is lower flow means more scattered fish. Dragging jigs and plastics along current seams will allow you to cover the most water and look for active fish. Maybe three ways and stickbaits at 1mph or less.

Either way, I’d cover water looking for aggressive fish.

I would have to agree with Wim. Although-what I might do is go vertical w/jigs-plastics. Lots o times that works better than live bait.(no wet fingers)and no minnow buckets froze to the bottom of the boat!

Three-way with floaters in the flats worked well for us after the gates were lowered. You can cover alot more area that way.

so with the last few days of open water approaching fishing has steadily declined with the gates of the locks and dams being closed. I’m only able to fish later in the day around 4pm the next few days and a few weeks ago the shallower bite was key around that time. with the low flow, should i still be concentrating my efforts in shallower water rather than 25 ft+ around sunset/after dark?

I’d be pitching rocks for the last hour or so. That’s where your biggest fish, and likely a good number of legals will come from.

Go shallow. THose fish will move right up tight to the shoreline. Pitch big plastics. A moxi and 1/8th ounce draggin jig has been fantastic up hear on pool 2.
