Just a question for you walleye guys…
Anyone catching walleyes on wingdams yet this fall? Went out tonight and threw crankbaits (Jointed shad raps, deep thundersticks, stuff like that) and didn’t get a single walleye. Fished from about an hour before dark until 9:00pm. We tried about 8 spots on 4 wingdams, and in general fished from just above the rocks casting out to the side or down below and bringing the crankbaits over the top of the rocks. I was fishing a neutral buoyancy jointed bait so I was going pretty slow most of the time, but tried every speed and variation I could. Caught one smallie and one large sheepie and that was it.
Is it just too early? The temperature drop has been so rapid I thought for sure they’d be turned on out there.
Have had some great nights in the fall with big walleyes on crankbaits while waiting for the flatheads to hit, so I had my hopes up!
Any advice or opinion on the matter will be appreciated!
