Just saw this on the Bookface. Not too surprised that the event would be affected. Was unsure if I was going to make it up this year, but I will be participating in this.

Does anyone even care to speculate how this could be done? Ya, I know we can wait until the rules come out.

I can also plan to cancel our room at Grandview lodge and use my down payment in a different way.

now this sounds like a contest i would entertain! guessing when you pay, they give you some kind of card that you must photo next to the fish on a bump board. fishdonkey does all their tournaments like this. never done one but this sounds like fun…..can’t wait!

This has fraud written all over it. Wasn’t there some issue years ago with a family cheating in this event too?

I could see it being a great success too though and could be expanded to more than just Gull in future years too.

Gimruis I agree, there are always those cheaters out there and quite frankly there will be a special place in hel! for em when the day comes.

But it does look like a good setup. Those apps look tough to scam but I’m not a hacker either.

I’d also be very interested in participating this year.

Well this will be interesting, Not so sure it will be as fun. Plus a lot more cheaters will get in the event. Hope it works out well for the local charity’s it help’s out . Does it cost the same for a ticket and can you still win a truck?

I bet every fish will be based on length and not by its weight. GPS location will need to be turned on as well I bet. Sounds interesting.

I believe some of these contests, possibly even the Brainerd event in the past awarded some prizes not based on biggest fish, but the sequence # it was registered.

    Like prizes for the 10th, 25th, 50th, 100th…etc.

Seems I remember an entry winning an ATV or Ice Castle or something like that registering a 6″ perch because it was the 250th fish entered.

I could see where they would move more towards something like that. An entry timestamp could easily be recorded and documented as the 250th fish.

I would believe that would make it mostly impossible to cheat or submit a fraudulent entry.

Like basically a raffle, you enter and hope you happen on a lucky number.

This too would still encourage fishing participation without temptation to cheat.

Yea the brainerd contest stagger there prizes from what I remember. I haven’t been there in years but I thought it use be be 100th place was like 10k cash. It makes it interesting and never know where you are gonna fall as far as prizes.

Will there be cheating? Yea probably, I can see groups of people fishing together and the guy that has the ticket submit the picture of a fish he didn’t catch.

Brainerd contest was based solely on weight. It didn’t matter when you weighed in your fish. It also didn’t matter the species. Prizes only awarded in order of heaviest fish to lightest fish.

There’s definitely cheating going On at the contest. When the canon sounds off and someone is already up there with a fish in hand….. ? Looks extremely fishy to me

Maybe your not that good at fishing? We’ve been to the weigh in line like in 5 minutes after the cannon. Yes the line is long when we get there. Everyone has a perch that won’t win. Fish the shallows and load up on small perch.

Lol, that’s why they call it fishing.
