Big G, wouldn’t you say its not “today’s generation” making this change. How many millenials would you find in our state congress or house? None I’d think. Not trying to start an argument, just saying. As a guy in his 20s, getting tired of the millennials suck line. I think the biggest thing here is convenience. Its 2017, I think we should be able to order beer online and have it to my doorstep in less than an hour!!
I do not mean millenials specific. Don’t be so quick to judge who is steering the house and senate these days… (the latest presidency aside) it is not me or my generation or the ones before it. I can guarantee that. Like I said, it’s hard to bite my tongue, but I made a promise to myself years ago. I too am tired of labels really, you fall into this age so you are this and deal with it… I know plenty of people in their 20’s who do not fit the “millenial mold”… and know plenty who do.
The most saddening part of this whole thing is the 10s of thousands of dollars from taxpayers’ pockets being spent changing/debating such a petty topic. If our founding fathers saw our state legislators spending this type of money and time on such a petty issue, they’d roll over in their graves.
I don’t really care one bit what the resolution or final decision is, but let’s make it and move on to more impactful things in MN.
This is right up there with debating who can marry who, smoke what, use certain restrooms, etc. etc. We are becoming more and more consumed in the dumbest topics in this country and it’s only getting worse. Why are we paying grown men and women 6 figure salaries to discuss and debate these things on our behalf?
I agree freedom to choose. If that destroys your world as you know it Dutch and others oh well, sorry. I thought all you conservatives were about less regulation and more individual choice anyway.
Don’t label me.
Fair enough. But if you’re gonna make a statement about society being ruined and then don’t want to elaborate leaving everyone to try to decipher what you mean you are sort of setting yourself up for that. Either way Ito doesn’t matter to me. Everyone sit back and have a drink… on sunday even
I’ve seen people try and explain things to you. It’s like tossing water against the wall……….nothing sticks. I have better things to do.
Crappie, if he explained it this post would be locked.

Personally, I could care less if there’s Sunday off sales. I haven’t had to make a Sunday run since 1970 something. But taking so much time debating is ridiculous. Work it out behind the scenes and save the floor time for something important.

Very much like disagreeing with another persons opinion, whatever that happens to be…take behind the scenes and use the private message system. It’s surprising what a person can find out directly messaging someone.
Please excuse me, I need to make sure I have enough product for my hair in the morning.
BK, message received.
Crappie, don’t bother I have nothing to explain.
Discuss it as you all wish, I’m out.
Anyone ever been to a party where all of a sudden you hear raised voices, then everyone gets quiet as two people argue really loudly, then they’re separated and the room is really quiet and awkward? That’s this thread right now.
It was the product in my hair comment wasn’t it… little over board.
What happened here? Choice is in the eye of onesself. Sometimes that choice is guided by values that are the same but different in approach by others. I would be in the same boat with you all.
Spicy foods and milk may seal the deal about me on the boat.

why didnt you just say “meh” or “what ever”
I find it totally hilarious that while in Minnesota I can’t purchase a bottle on Sunday. Oh well I’ll survive, glad a change is hopefully on the way
In a free society there’s literally, figuratively, plausibly, rationally, scientifically, biologically, factually, ironically, commonsenseically, fiscally no sane sound reasonable reason other than personal opinions and a person feelings not to sell fire water or cars on Sunday’s.
Post script, I don’t even drink, but I do drive while not drinking.
Ah, is it that time of year again on IDO? I got my popcorn. I’m waiting on the first mille lacs netting and spearing thread. Love this time of year.
In other news I can’t wait to post a picture of my first trophy rat. They are the size of a small cat. I hope they fit in the trap entrance.
I must be really old.
When I was a kid, super markets and department stores were closed on Sundays. You couldn’t even buy a beer or a cocktail in a restaurant on Sundays. Mn Blue Laws.
I would go to church with my family on Sunday mornings, have Sunday dinner with the entire family at the dinning room table, and run my go cart in the Red Owl parking lot in the afternoon.
You had to plan your shopping. My life has changed, but I still manage to plan my liquor purchases.
If you really need alcohol on Sundays and don’t seem to be able to plan, you can get liquor by the drink in a bar or restaurant.
Sundays was always a great time to fish, sail, or water ski at my uncles cabin on White Bear.
Times have changed….but Sunday Liquor sales…is that necessary???
I don’t drink too often, this will not change my life in any way. If I have to choose a side, I suppose I am happy that it passed just so it’s not a big public topic discussion every single year at this time.
Maybe MN should make it illegal to open any and every business on Sundays. Why not?

Here’s the deal in your scenario, there is no choice, people have to live by your ideals. Now if you allow sales on Sunday, you can continue on as you have, but others get to do what they want. They can even choose not to buy on Sunday just as before.
This is one of those victimless rules.
What bother me most on this as how they discuss how much extra tax money it is going to bring in. I sure hope it is not the same people predicting this “windfall’ that predicted how much revenue was going to be generated from online pulltabs for the stadium.
That doesn’t even make sense. How is it going to pull in extra money besides taxing the people who are working?
They are already finding ways to spend it.
House legislators working to move some extra tax from Sunday liquor sales towards addiction programs.
One extra day that is 1/7 more revenue for the state isn’t that how it works.
One extra day that is 1/7 more revenue for the state isn’t that how it works.
Bingo! Sad thing is…..politicians think that is how it works!
Legislature Math
Maybe next they will add an extra day to the week to increase revenue.
R-E-L-A-X That is what Sundays have always meant to me,family time.
Todays Electronic 24/7 world destroys what little time we have to enjoy the moment at hand.
I’m with Dutchy on this one.
Instead of explaining why I’m against it, why don’t you guys give me one valid reason (beyond money) why to legalize Sunday sales.
Because that’s when I, the customer, have time to shop. Weather it’s buying wine, beer, or a car, I have time on weekends.
The business I work for wouldn’t dream of closing on a weekday. Why? Because that’s when our business customers are at work and want our services. You have to be available when the customer wants to do business.
In the 1990s, I lived in the United Kingdom and in the UK towns and cities there are still many small shops in the town/city center. Small grocery stores, liquor stores, produce shops, butchers, etc.
These small stores, even in the 1990s, stuck to the Victorian closing times and they would snap the locks shut at 5:00 sharp, every night. Right when their entire modern customer base was getting off of work. There would literally be people sprinting to try to get in the doors before 5 and I saw on an almost weekly basis a store clerk snapping shut the lock in the face of a customer and say, “You’ll ‘ave to come tomorrow, luv. We’re closed.” They steadfastly refused to adjust to the modern world where women work outside of the home and cannot do the shopping at 10 A.M. every day.
And then these same businesses would be on TV whining about the decline of High Street shops and how the big box retail was putting them out of business. I freaking wonder why? Extreme example, yes, but the perfectly shows the principle.
The law doesn’t say the retailers have to open. It just says they can.
