    Hey there,

Looking for experience/impressions issues with the new model competitor 175FSX. Given a choice of a Yamaha F150 or Mercury 150 Pro XS what is the better choice?

As that boat just hit the dealer showrooms not much info on that boat other then it is a Alumacraft Competitor and they have been out for many years, the lay out and features are new. Your going to get 50/50 ford/Chevy thing on the 2 motors. Both are strong motors just a preference thing or what you had in the past and liked. I know the Mercury has a optional 5 year warranty and almost all dealers work on them. If your going to buy better do it quick as COVID has created a Sellers market and many first time buyers. Good luck and post pics after you take ownership with your comments.

I was in the market and checked out the FSX but ultimately ended up with the Competitor Sport with the Suzuki 140 to save money. I did like the built in jump seats, but that was about the only thing. Rest of the upgrades seemed to be family/creature comfort orientated and as a majority of my boating/fishing involves 2 people, the flip down bench/casting deck made more sense.

I did like the look of the boat though, just not what I needed for the extra money. As for motor, I don’t have anything to say other than I opted for the cheaper 140 as I don’t plan on pulling skiers.

Also, I’ll copy bigcrappie in that you will need to bite the bullet tomorrow most likely to get your hands on the FSX. We looked at 3 dealers around the metro and they all had one in the showroom with a few more on the way but most of the inventory was for competitor sport as it has the bigger market.

We ordered a 185 FSX end of January and even then they were hard to find in stock or a dealer that had them on order. We needed the jump seats since it is usually myself, wife and 3 kids otherwise I would have gotten the regular competitor. We went with the Yamaha 150 vmax SHO because of mostly having 5 in the boat and water sports with the kids.

We are in the same situation. Ordered a 185 FSX at the end of January. Really hopeful to get it by April. We went with the 150 Suzuki.
