Expect shipping delays this spring!

Many of us probably haven’t given the impact to our industry much thought. The rapid spread of the corona virus has much more than a few people quarantined. In China, major cities have been basically locked down and many manufacturers are at a stand still. A few of the contacts I work with are under the quarantine and they are without many of their employees. This will have an affect on spring goods that haven’t shipped yet and will most likely carry over into fall goods that ship in late June/ early July.

On a paranoid view of the situation, I do wonder why and how this new virus suddenly came to be….and starts up during the busiest time of tourist season in China. I generally don’t jump on the conspiracy bandwagon, but sure is strange with the timing of this

What would be the point of killing off a bunch of your own people?

Not into conspiracy theories but last week in the news they said this virus has the same genitic makeup of some critter in China that looks like a scaly anteaters animal.

I’ve also been hearing it’s affecting products that some of our facilities need to manufacture there product.

There will be massive shortages of goods made in China. The longer this goes the worse it will be.

China is basically locking the country down.

Not to relegate a human life down to numbers, but a thousand people is a far cry from a “bunch of people” in China.

I was just notified from a supplier to expect a major rise in the price of steel in the second Qtr.

I ordered a mess of blank crankbait bodies that I like to paint last fall thinking the winter could be bad and I’d need some sanity therapy on a few days but so far it hasn’t gotten to that. Now I’m glad I ordered ahead on these. I’m sitting good on most of them.

Throughout history multiple countries have “experimented “ with their own citizens

Meh. The common flu kills more people every year, and no one bats an eyelash.

There’s no conspiracy. Viruses are constantly mutating and there will always be new strains that cause new diseases.

No doubt. Go to these markets and see all the crap they are dealing with. Bats, monkey brains, rats, no regulations, millions of people…all for the price of cheap goods!

It’s a global economy. Darn near every type of good will be affected in some way by a significant Chinese industry slowdown.

On a positive note, the shutdown in China has drastically reduced demand for fuel in the short term. The Oakdale FF had gas at $1.89 last week.

Our business relies on product from China. Our factory there is shutdown. They had go-live dates that have since expired and continue on. There is a priority system set up that will allow some factories to begin producing again before others, when the time comes. Our product is the lowest priority #4. Ouch. And when they give the green light, logistics and shipping will be the bottleneck, since the ports are already over flowing with product with nothing being shipped.

It’s a pangolin and the Chinese consider their scales and meat to have medicinal purposes. Trafficking them in this trade is illegal but obviously the Chinese don’t care about that in their sketchy wildlife/meat markets that are ripe for harboring these types of pathogens.

Perfect time for smart business people to move their manufacturing out of China.

    #1914844

Wouldn’t worry about it guys. All the manufacturing has moved back to America. Saw a guy on tv talking about it like 3 years ago
