Ah. Must have missed that one
June 16, 2020 at 7:02 am #1950361any word what happens with warrantied products?
Everything I’ve read say’s they will still fully support their product including warranty. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out over the next 10 years.

Oh boy! guess ive been distracted by all the current event posts. Time to refocus
June 17, 2020 at 8:02 pm #1950915Wow, somehow I missed this too. Not unexpected, but still shocking. You could tell they were giving major incentives to dealers in order to convince customers to go with them. I know my dealer was pushing hard on me to go with one. You see a lot of them on the high-end pontoons.
Besides the job losses, and the loss of competition, I’m also sad about the loss of a big component of freshwater fishing and boating history. Evinrude/Johnson. Larson boats gone. This hits all of us on the site right in the gut.
Old Lund/Alumacraft/Crestliner boats with an old Evinrude/Johnson on the back, pulled by an old Chevy truck with a guy playing the Twins game over WCCO. Nostalgia.

Personally I hated the “new” look of the ‘rudes, but remembering dad’s ol 10 hp always brings a smile to my face (and an ache in my back).

Posts: 155June 18, 2020 at 8:19 pm #1951123I find it HILARIOUS. A friend of mine was looking for a newer toon. He asked me to look at one he found online. It had an Evenrude. I pointed him to a post here where people were talking about these motors. When he told the seller that he had read some things online that were not so positive about the motor he said that his friend was an idiot and didn’t know what he was talking about. He said these motors were the best and most technological motors on the market. Well I guess we know who the idiot is! I just wish he was a regular participant here so he could see who was the idiot and who wasn’t. By the way I never said anything negative. I just pointed out all the negative reports.

Mercury is taking over all service and warranty work, which isn’t surprising as many dealers carry both motors at their dealerships already.
June 19, 2020 at 8:27 am #1951153Are all outboards, boats, and outdoor stores owned by the same company yet? Seems like we are getting yo that point

I was told Mercury is just becoming the primary engine provider for BRP’s boat builders. BRP will continue supporting the engine warranty. I’m sure Mercury is trying to sign many of the old Evinrude dealers, but I would assume all the engine manufacturers are likely doing the same. After all selling more outboards is the goal for all outboard companies.

Not me. I had a 15 Evy for 30 years that we beat the crap out of running through mud during the duck season, cold water season, etc. Always started on the second pull when cold, first when warm. Great motor.
Also had a 110 oil injected Evy for 33 years. Always started on first try in the spring. Ran very well. I know others had issues with the oil injection, but nit me. Another great motor.
Now I run Yamaha 4 strokes…ahhhh….

Posts: 127June 20, 2020 at 1:52 pm #1951374I ran Evinrudes back in the late 1970″s no problems. Same in the 1980″s had problems with the 100-1 oil injection. Mercury two and four strokes in the 90’s and early 2000’s. hard starting and cold blooded every one. Lots of little issues.Honda for seven years great running motor but hard starting cold.Have a new E-tech since 2017. Great running motor. Over 400 hours on it and not a any problems at all. starts good even in cold weather. Was skeptical at first with all the bad internet comments but couldnt be happier. Until a year ago I had a 2 Horse Evinrude with a side mount for a canoe that was used on many a canada trip. still had the original sparkplug. 1980 model.
June 20, 2020 at 2:36 pm #1951379I bought a 1978 15 hp Evinrude 5 years ago for duck hunting. The guy I bought it from used it only for duck hunting. The original owner was an OMC technician and he used it only for duck hunting. At this rate it will still be running 100 years from now as long as parts are available.
