I haven’t been down since new ownership took over. Last I heard they were improving some cabins and doing work on the bait shop. What does everybody think? Has much changed. Is it the same great old time bait shop experience we were used to from days gone by?
Since there hasn’t been much chatter pro or con I thought I would ask.

    Are the ramps open? razz

I only went there a few times after the switch with so much skim ice last winter. The guys seem nice enough, but I did notice they raised lodging rates in a big way.

Dutchie, was down there a while back and noticed a lot different attitude in the baitshop. Distant but mildly sociable. Nothing near the good old days but better than right after Dean and his trusty wonderdog, Gus- – jerr

When we were there a few weeks back, everything seemed OK. Chris chatted with us and discussed catfishing, the resort, etc.

I’m sure some people yearn for the old days, but having some potential stability in the management is also nice. Give them a couple years and I can see good things happening down there.

We have gone every year for the past 6, there have been 5 different management teams…so you’ve got that too.

    Hi Dutchboy
I apologize for the lack of post here on IDO. That is my responsibility and sometimes I spread myself a little thin.

I noticed a comment below that mentioned they were here last Sunday and there were no changes. He must have been wandering around with his eyes closed.

Our staff over there including myself our new to the resort life and some are new to the river. They are learning quickly and like all of the past management within a year they will be experts (in their eyes at least).

I also noticed a comment pertaining to our rates going way up. They may have increased slightly but are still probably the cheapest cabins in MN or Wisconsin.
During our peak season March & April and again October/ November the rates are $150/night for 4 guests ($37.50 each)

Off seasons rates are $120/night up to 4 guests. We also have several weekends during the year that I ran $75/night specials. You can not stay in a local hotel for these prices. Remember this includes a waterfront cabin, full kitchen, free use of boat ramp, fish cleaning shack etc.

As far as projects / Changes made:
    Complete remodel on Cabin 1
Converted all cabins to year round use
Install new water mains throughout property
Tore down and rebuilt fish cleaning shack
Complete overhaul on bait shop including a 500% increase in inventory
Hauled away 9 , yes 9, 30 yard dumpsters of crap (and were not done yet)
New water heaters in all cabins
New Tv’s and Satelite in all cabins
Professional / very picky cleaning staff
Painted every surface we could find including garage, dock etc
Rebuilt small dock and added new bumpers and wheels
    Installed security cameras on property

This is all I could come up with off the top of my head but I know there is probably a list twice this size. Not everything is visible from the outside but I promise you it is going in the right direction.

For those who “did not see any changes” stop down and let me take you for a walk. I have plenty of before and after photos.

Please stop in anytime you are near and check the place out. It is a work in progress and will take a couple of years to complete everything on our list. We love to talk fishing and show off what we have done.

    Thank You,
    Chris Winchester and Tylor Schaefer

Speaking of “Tore down and rebuilt fish cleaning shack”

    Is that project done ?

I sure hope not come Mayfly time…Just saying…..

Another note ..I not sure why but this year I and others have seen an increased speed in which people are driving through Everts this summer…SOMEBODY is going to get hurt and it wont be good…God forbid one of my kids gets hit !!!!

Chris thanks for the reply. BK was always the thread that connected the members to Everts. He kept us informed of upcoming events along with fishing reports.

    Thanks again.

    Trumar,
Besides redoing the tops, yes, that project is done. It will not be completely enclosed again. We had to be very careful with what was done to it to even be allowed to repair / fix what we did. Mayflys will suck along with all of the other bugs but our other option was no cleaning shack at all if it was left the way it was.

We do all we can to stop the fast driving and I cant imagine that it started because there was new management. I have seen our resident campers and visitors speeding through as often as strangers. My visitors included, which will not do it again. All we can do is try to stop each one and slow them down.

I spent two nights at the newly remodeled cabins this Spring, I had a great time. Yes the prices went up a bit, but like Chris said, they are still lower than most. I am confident when I say that the remodel additions sit inline with the slight price increase.

I remember the “good ole days” very well, but I was never personally taken back by any but one of the management changes over the years. The river itself has evolved from a handful of people who knew the secrets it held, to virtually the whole world knowing about P4. In my opinion, it is the new faces of the customers more than the staff who are evolving the resort as a whole. Is that a bad thing? Who knows…What I do know is i’ll continue to give my money to Evert’s.

I’ve rented a cabin in the past several times in spring. Everything a guy needs for 2-3 boats of guys and a very cheap on the water place to stay when you split the cabin aND want to fish late night eyes. I jumped on a nice ‘kid’s weekend’ offer coming up and even invited my folks to meet us and stay and fish with the grand kids. Excited to see the improvements and meet new staff. Hopefully we can still find a few panfish for the kids with the water coming up if anyone has any pointers I’m all ears. Plan to take the old man out at dark for whiskers, not too worried about that. Thanks.

    Dutchy,
Like Ole Man River Everts is an ever changing work in progress. The new crew may not have picked up the essence of Everts yet but they are a friendly and helpful group of guys. I have stayed there several times this year so far and it was a great experience. Nothing like waking up to the sound of a barge chugging by outside your door. That is what Evert’s is all about. Chris is a heck of a nice guy and his vision for the resort will ensure that Evert’s will be around for many years to come.
Evert’s is more than a place—-it is a frame of mind. It is hard to worry about anything when I head down the hill and into my Happy Place. I have lived through many changes at Everts over the years and this one is overall a good one. Last time I was there I got to talk to River Rat Randy, BK, Trumar, Kerry Harvey, Marty Hahn and several more of the old timers. That tells me the resort is still in good hands. I will say though—I missed not having the campfire. How am I going to learn to catch a walleye without a campfire and Randy’s stories??? Come on down Dutchy and check the place out for yourself!!! By the way the ramps are open and DR. BK is on call!

I wasn’t condemning anything with the post i was curious about what was going on. Brian was always making posts and reports which kept us informed. For whatever reason (by his or managements choice ) there aren’t are as many threads about the area. Maybe they are both to busy? Who knows. Anyway it is what it is and won’t effect me either way.

I frequent the Everts threads for the pure drama entertainment of it all. Someday I gotta stop and see what all the fuss is about..

We wold love to have you stop and check out the resort / shop sometime. Sorry to disappoint but we have removed all drama (at least that the resort has control over) from the facility. Pure fun, great fishing and great times at a ma and pa shop on the shoreline. These places just plain do not exist anymore.
