Midwest hours are different that boats that run all year. It is much better for a motor to run regularly rather than sit for 5 to 6 months idle. In the age of ethanol fuel, rubber seals, bushings, and moisture in the motors sitting for long periods can wreak more havoc than a motor that runs all the time with many more hours on it. That is the case with any engine except maybe electric motors.

WHo runs ethanol in any outboard or small engine is a MORON. Non-oxy all the way.

Have you been to a boat launch lately? It’s not exactly a MENSA convention usually.

I have been running it in my small engines for the better part of 10 years now and haven’t had a single problem

Jake you are dang lucky and must go through a lot of fuel because it’s terrible for small engines. I hope you replace your fuel water separator frequently.

Why would a person be a moron for using the fuel suggested by the manufacturer? Your the moron for pi$$ing money away for no reason. I get it if your stuff just sits but if your using it on a regular basis it’s fine. Well over 2000 problem free hours for me and it’s never seen anything but 87.

Well I guess walleyes you are real damn lucky. I applaud you. Ethanol is terrible for small engines. You must treat it with something to help wash out the water. I’ll gladly pay for premium and not have to worry ever. You do you it seems to be working. Based on another thread 1000 hours you are due for a rebuild just saying.

Lucky? Really? 2 motors, 2 different brands and I’m lucky putting in what they suggest? Both with a pile of hours on them? There’s a reason nobody on the lake has 91 because it’s ridiculous. We fish big water with long runs 3-5 days a week and I fill up at the same pump all the guides do. Those big outboards aren’t like a lawn mower. They have computers to get that stuff figured out but keep wasting your money

About a month ago I was talking to a Ranger salesman about used boats and how cheap they are if they have an etec on the back and he said if you buy one your basically buying a hull and a trailer and whatever electronics are on the boat because the motor holds zero value. As said above, if you can get a smokin deal on one, used Verado’s are a dime a dozen or set the savings aside to repower eventually.

This. My 2018 90hp Etec has been a solid motor. That said, needed to replace the lower end last year after hitting some rocks, and the only new replacement lower my tech could find was $5,000 because the parts are drying up. After fixing, brought it to a local Ranger dealer to see about a trade-in/consignment on my Ranger Reata pontoon, and the dealer said they won’t take any trades/consignments with an Evinrude motor because of the lack of parts and inability to service.

I guess I mow my lawn 1-2 times a week and then just run sea foam threw it at the end of summer. Have never touched the water separator. Hell, I havent even changed the oil or added any in my lawnmower since I bought it 10 years ago. Granted it just a cheap push mower but still

I recently sold a boat with a 2014 135HO on the back. It was an awesome motor that never had any issues. I fully expect it to go another 10 years for the guy who bought it so long as he runs it WOT regularly and keeps up with maintenance.

Of course, any motor can have issues or even blow up. If you get a good deal on an etec, feel great about it. And as pointed out, you can invest the money you saved for the possibility an eventual replacement just in case. That’s not a bad idea for any out of warranty motor, frankly.
