Where do they go?

I don’t think this will violate any super secrete information.

Everybody knows there are huge Muskie in Mille Lacs. Every late fall we see photos and hear of some monsters caught up there.

My question is where do they go in the summer? Even if it’s into deep water with all the Walleye guys you would think you would hear of stories of guys managing to land a few.
I understand the light line argument, but it doesn’t hold up. Huge Pike get landed every winter on light line.

So, is there some super deep top secrete basin in Mille Lacs that the Muskie are stacked in by the 100’s?

If you took a map and did a overlay of where fish are caught on that lake (all species) there isn’t much room for them to hide.

How has an opinion that makes sense?

They go where the ciscos go. Which in the summer is usually suspended over deep water. Many of these areas lack structure, so walleye fisherman pressure is pretty much non existant, therefore they are not hooking in to the muskies that are suspended in “nomans land”.

When the ciscos move in to the shallow rocks to spawn in early november, the big girls follow them, and that is when the majority of the monster fish are caught.

    That’s my theory, anyway…

    Welcome to In-Depth!

Yours is as good as a theory as I’ve heard. So why don’t you Muskie guys troll the basins during the summer? Wouldn’t the Walleye also be feeding on the ciscos? Just can’t really understand why big fish are only being caught in the fall.
