Lake Namakagon… Over the last 5 years, my buddy Robb and I have taken turns picking a new lake (in northern WI) to fish as our last muskie fishing outing of the year. Previous lakes have been Yellow, Whitefish, Big McKenzie, and Big McKenzie. Robb has the hot hand the last 2 years on Big McKenzie. He caught a fat 48 two years ago and last year another fat 47 along with 3 other smaller fish. I got shut out last year. Luckly, it’s my turn to pick the lake this year. I let Robb know that the last place we will be fishing this year is Big McKenzie.

Part of the fun of selecting the lake is trying to do the research. The WI DNR website has some good information as well as looking at the results of the muskie tourny that was held recently in the Hayward area. The lady that won the tourny caught 2 – 50+ inch fish.

Has anyone else fished muskies on this lake? We plan to troll, soak suckers and cast. We’re also open for suggestions on where to get started since neither of us have fished the lake. It also looks like it might be time to pull out the warm cloths too this weekend. Hope to have some new pictures to post after the weekend.

    Good luck, stick a pig

With those solid fish in Big Mac, I think I would just go back and kick Robb’s butt there. Those are 2 dandy looking fish.

A new adventure is always-have a great trip

The weather forecasts sure have me scratching my head. We will be staying at the cabin in Cumberland tonight. If the roads are going to be messy in the morning, we might have to change to plan B (a different lake). It is probably about 80 miles from Cumberland to Namakagon. It’s only about 25 miles to Big McKenzie. I’d prefer to check out Lake Namakagon but regardless of where we go, hopefully the muskie gods will be smiling at us.
