Went out today on a metro lake. Water temps were at 64 degrees. Tried a number of different lures including pounders, intimidators, and super-models. Had one hit a dawg, and one follow on a cowgirl. Overall it was a slow day. Did see a few different fish porpoise which is always cool. Hopefully some cool temps will get that water back down in the 50s!

I wandered to a new lake for me on the Flambeau Chain NW of me… Known for its clear waters and big fish, it was time to try something different. Got on the water after running the dogs in tickland about 2 p.m. I put the trolling motor in cruise and got ready to huck the cowgirl as my search lure to start the day. After wandering along several miles of shoreline, it was time to slow down. I was pretty sure based on my navionics chip that I was going to enter a pretty good submergent weed area and the outflow for the chain was just around the corner…

Trying to get something going with a dive/rise bait I hooked up a weighted suick in the perch pattern. After determining that I was fighting the weeds just a bit more than I wanted to I switched to a 7″ Crane and kept on going. Just not the right location or baits…

Though most I have been talking to have been fishing 8′ or less in the green weeds, I went off to a couple of current areas to see if I could bulldawg up a fish… After moving through the first location, I noticed ciscoes flipping, so I went and messed around with them for an hour or so over 60′ of water and then off to the second current area. All day the water temp registered 60*-62* and nary a follow to show for it. After talking with the boys at Rollie and Helen’s it sounded like a slow weekend here in the north. One soul did come in the store and had mustered 7 fish for the weekend, but know the area he came from he was fishing darker water.

A great day on the water for the first time in over a month, a little sunburn, sweated a little, no fish but fished for a little over 6 hours, no marathon by any means, but great to huckin’ again!!!

Welcome, jmarksman!!! I might make it up to the TFF this weekend also… My best friend just took a job in Mercer, so its his turn to provide the sleepovers before hunting/fishing the next day!!!
