If i remember right isnt the record 54 pounds and 56 inches long and not 54 inches??? He did kill a nice fish but being a avid muskie guy it does not look like a 50 pound fish…. atleast to me. still a nice fish though

    50lbs my

There’s no way that fish is 50lbs maybe 35, but not 50

It’s a really nice fish, but not worth killing

To bad they killed it. Wait till they see the bill to mount it. odds are it will end up freezer burned and thrown out. Catch Photo Release and get a replica

funny thing is that they prolly couldn’t have released it with the almost 90 degree water temps. right now if u are musky fishing u better plan on killing the fish. that guy was not a real musky fisherman…he was in a pontoon.

Too bad, it was a nice fish.

So real muskie men don’t fish out of a pontoon?

If they killed it because they thought they had the state record, well I have a feeling they will be a little embarrassed when they find out that they were 20lbs short and called Kare11. Hopefully the bait shop gives them a hard time, like what exactly do they need official measurements for.

And nice fact checking by Kare11.

Come one guys. If he wants to keep a fish he is perfectly in his right to do so. The statewide rule is one over 50 inches. I have no problem with that. Good for him, hang it on the wall and show it off.

POST LIKE THIS MAKE ME SICK!!!!
You guys better not ever keep a fish. Can’t you be happy for the guy. It’s a 50+ inch fish…..that is a trophy and worthy for the wall for anybody, and to make a statement that he isn’t a real fisherman because he’s fishing out of a pontoon. I think everyone here deserves an apology for that statement.

You don’t know the situation. Maybe this is this guys dream fish. I know it’s mine. I’ll be putting anything over 50″ on the wall. I sure hope this guy isn’t a memebr of IDO, if he is he won’t be long. The fish may have been injured during the fight. Posts like this do IDO no good in my opinion. Why should I give any information about what I’ve caught or what techniques are working, if I’m going to get ripped to shreds by some of you. I’ve caught and released 25 walleye this year over 26″…..but you know what. I kept one that I gill hooked and I didn’t think has going to make it and I’m going to put it on the wall. It wasn’t the biggest fish I have ever caught, but it will look very nice on the wall. I guess I should have thrown it back in your eyes. It might have made it or it might not have, chance are it wouldn’t have if you’d seen the gills, it is my right to keep it, and shouldn’t need to worry about posting the fish on IDO.
Please watch what you post and think of others that enjoy this sight.

I totally disagree. My dad is a absolute die hard muskie fisherman and a great one at that who almost strictly targets muskies, and you know something his rig is a pontoon. Pontoons are awesome to fish muskies out of there like one big casting deck great for seeing follows etc. So if you see a lund pontoon on lake andrusia or cass lake with a 75 honda on the back with a honda 9.9 kicker and a pinpoint bow mount on the front say hi that’s my dad.

    Take care everyone!

You can’t discount the guy for the boat he fishes out of. I have fished muskies out of a pontoon and honestly it’s pretty great. However, fishing for them right now with these temps is a death sentence for any muskies he does catch. With the spincast setup in the background, I’ll blame it on ignorance.

I think everyone will agree that its a trophy fish but it makes me laugh how the think its approaching the state record. There are fish caught every year approaching the 60″ mark but do not have the weight for the record and you never even hear about these fish…. also there are a few well known guides in the last 2 years that have released the state record both knowing and not knowing of it and one of which is even on video but they will never tell you or show you the pictures unless you know them.

I’m on a hotel computer and can’t copy whatsa’s post but I agree with him a 100%. This site is getting pretty clicky. I know the site has grown by leeps and bounds and it’s great. However, there are people who don’t post near what they used too, that offered great reports, info and pics.

Maybe KARE 11 screwed it all up, maybe he is laughing at the article also knowing all long that it wouldn’t be a state record. I didn’t see it air on TV, reading the article and knowing fish….I’d never relate just missing a state record by and inch. It would be a weight because we all know all fish are not created equal. I don’t know musky that well but I’d guess a 50″ fish could very in weight maybe up to 15 lbs depending on the lake that it’s caught on. If I caught one that big I’d want it weighed on a certified scale. I wouldn’t doubt KARE 11 added a little twist to the story to get more views.
I think some of you need to cut the guy a break….it’s a trophy fish

    Whatsa,
I agree with some of your points. If I caught that fish, it would be on my wall too. But you make is sound like you need to kill a fish to put it on the wall. Today’s replicas offer many more advantages over mounting the real deal.

Just for the record, (I don’t know if I’m in the clicke though) if someone in my boat caught that fish and wanted to keep it, they better know how to swim to shore hanging on to a 53 inch fish.

BTW – I also fish for muskies out of a pontoon.

I could not do the replica. I can see it now. Someone comes over and says “Wow, did you catch that fish?” “Nope, one that looked just like it though!”

personally I feel its more rewarding to see the fish swim away healthy. catching is half the battle and making a quick, ethical, and safe release is the fun part! knowing you won the battle and it can be done another day! many of these fish are caught several times a year

I’m personally, am not big on replica’s guy, and I don’t know the situation on the boat. Don’t get me wrong. I practice and preach CPR also. I just don’t think we should condemn and make some of the comments that were made in this post. The fish looks healthy in the picture but like other have said in this post, with these warm of waters it may not have made it??? SO do none of you Musky guys fish during this period of the year knowing that you are killing ever fish that you pull out of the water with these warm waters….again I’m not a musky guy….just going off the comments made in this post. I’m sure you can cradle them and release many of them in the water. But I got to believe some of these fish get a hooked in the gill and are bleeding pretty bad…. what do you do? Throw it back and hope it makes it. I do believe there are many more large fish because of the effort you muskie guys have made to the sport.
I’m just saying think about what you are posting and how you would feel catch this trophy and then reading some of the thing that were posted here.

i was just trying to insult the guy by saying he’s not a real musky fisherman from a pontoon… the truth is ur not a smart or real musky fisherman if u fish in almost 90 degree water. i agree if some1 in my boat wanted to keep that fish they would have to swim. real musky nuts are catch and release and may only keep 1 or 2 fish in a lifetime. i myself will never kill a fish.
MOST musky fisherman are getting smarter and that’s why musky fishing is better today than it was 20 years ago.
and my third point is… i have seen that fish on white bear for 2 years now and if i would have boated it it would still swim today. the way it should be.

I can see I won’t be fishing with a few of you guys, while I have no desire to keep any Musky it was his legal right to keep it and if I couldn’t talk him out of it, so be it, I’d never do anything so childish as tell him he had to release it or swim to shore.

I fish sometimes to just fish and C&R, and sometimes to also put a meal on the table, that don’t float in your boat, make sure you tell me before we go, and we can stay out of each others boat.

There’s plenty more things to worry about than this guy keeping one legal Musky.

Looks like the story has been updated. No more talking about it being close to the state record.

Allen, maybe I am not understanding…you fish for muskies to put a meal on the table? I don’t think you need to be too concerned that anybody would invite you into their boat.

Wasn’t clear, sorry, when I fish for the table it is not for Musky’s, usually walleyes or crappies….although snagging eagles can be fun…

    Just kidding!!!!
