Im heading home from school this weekend, was hoping to do a little hunting. But i was wondering if anyone could tell me what the water temps are like around the metro? Might have to lay down the big sticks at chase some eyes if the temps are still in the 80’s.

    Thanks, Tim

Temps on tonka tonight were 77.9-79.2. Your good to go. Just have your knipex ready and keep them in the water while unhooking them.

It’s not like the magic number is 80 degrees. Even sustained water temps in the high 70’s will cause issues.

It’s the warm water coupled with depleted oxygen levels that occur during the “dog days” of summer that cause issues with reviving the larger fish such as muskies.

I came across 2 floaters on Tonka Sunday afternoon. One appeared to be fairly fresh upper fortys fish the other maybe a 45″.

I believe it’s best to leave them alone until we get a cool down and temps drop a few degrees. The fall bite this year may be fantastic, and there are 2 more fish that won’t be there for it. Dead fish don’t fight.

I got out over the weekend, Forest was 82 during the day.. by evening it was 77-78.. makes me nervous fishing when its that warm.. not worth catching one if you aren’t going to be able to revive it.

I was on Lake Superior yesterday in the Apostle Islands and the temps were in the low to mid 70’s… Warm every where!!!

I haven’t been out in over two weeks. Too damn warm. Fished a small bass tournament on Forest last night, water temps were 83-86….Still a fair amount of goofballs out there huckin’ the big stuff though.
