Hey everyone, I’m taking the annual trip up to Saskatchewan (Amisk Lake) over the 4th of July. Typically we hit weedbeds adjacent to an incoming river in the 8-12ft. range for pike. I’ve been watching the weather, and its quite a bit above average (10-15 degrees). Does anyone have any suggestions for tactics for targeting larger pike if the weedbeds action has sloped off?

If you can find rock humps that come up to a couple feet below the surface or have rocks showing and are near deep water throw big plugs over and around them. Don’t spend a lot of time on a spot if you don’t get any strikes.

We were on LOTW for some favorite spots. They weren’t on the usual spots, but we found them suspending over 30-35ft of water. They all were eating 3-4″ Okeechobee colored crawfish off the bottom. I would brush up on some carolina rigging. Fewer numbers, but bigger fish.

I fish pike in northern Manitoba and the pike stay in the weed beds way into August. The biggest fish are in cabbage adjacent to deep water. I would look for other weed beds if the ones you are fishing don’t hold up.
