I spent all day Saturday hucking baits with my buddy Billy from Grand Rapids. Billy’s the one with bloody hand!
Saturday was a HUCK fest from sun up to sun down. We never moved a single fish until well into the late afternoon. The bait fish out over the basin was mind blowing, anything deeper then 25 feet looked like the photo below. After beating the water to a froth, we decided to switch it up and work the shallow cabbage and reed transitions. Billy’s 3rd cast got crunched and we netted a beautiful 44 inch spotty, one of the best marked fish I have ever seen and Billy’s first of the year. After a quick photo we blasted acorss the lake to another spot just like where we stuck Billy’s fish. On my second cast I had a giant wood tick come up boatside and attempt to eat, mouth as big as a 5-gallon bucket, wide open, and she missed. This fish was well into the 50 inch range, I would guess mid’s. We were able to pull her back to the boat 5 more times but she never came up hot like she did on my second cast. Even now as I type this the hair is stading up on the back of my neck just thinking about it, that’s muskie hunting
My son Alex had his first follow on Thursday, black and orange top raider pulled in a 43-44 inch fish to the boat. It was fun to watch him, even better to listen, he told me that fish was 11 feet
