Moving Fish, But Can’t Seal the Deal

Been moving fish the last couple nights, but can’t get them to commit. Except for the one Monday that stopped my blades, but manged to avoid two trebles. Sure has been a nice start to the season. Fishing cabbage next to deep breaks, windy side of lake. Small feeding window it seems at sunset.

What has everyone else been experiencing?

Last nights fish was pushing a wall of water like a nuclear submarine behind my bucktail, but just would not commit, mid 40’s fish for sure.

Heh, funny. I’ve seen that sort of follow before. Good luck!

I hope they are going like that this year. For some reason, it probably is just me or the lakes I fish, but last year I could not get anything going on top water. Maybe pressure, maybe Im nuts! Previous years, top water is my bread and butter. Last year Jerk/glide baits were moving fish. Absolutely nothing beats a 1 foot wall of water trailing your lure. Talk about a rush! Who needs crack! The fish I stuck on opener hit a Jackpot. I was throwing a Pacemaker for most of the morning before sunrise. Mostly because I was unsure of week growth this year and I knew there were weeds on top of the reefs. I am pretty sure I triggered the bite. 1) Because it is not a secret spot, and I know by the time I hit that spot, that fish had to have seen 30 different lures already. 2) The way it hit was different. It was not a big blow up or a follow and strike. I was working the jackpot cadence and then put in a few series of real quick walks. Low and behold I never saw her coming and she came from the side not behind it. But, right when I started the quick walk cadence she came up ever so gently and kind of sucked it in. Real cool! and different from other top water strikes. But anyway – Could be luck, Could be right place – right time. I hope it was applying lessons learned.

    lots of luck:

You are not the only one that has been experiencing that frustration. Most coming into the Musky Shop during WI opening weekend were seeing all sorts of fish, just not catching many if any…

The catching started to get better early in the week following Memorial Day. I heard of a 49″ on Leech and know of a 51″ and 50″ fish from a couple of the flowages around here. My brother managed a 42 and 38 along with a lost one in between those two. Seems like most are catching on smaller bucktails, cranks and topwaters.

Now the cold front from the late part of last week has slowed things down again and I haven’t been in the shop since the weekend. Hoping to finally get out myself without the screaming downpour from last night.

I love the picture of the nuclear sub I can just picture it with gaping jaws

I would love to get one on topwater, I can’t even imaging the kind of rush you’d get from that

Now I’ve just got to find time to fish with starting a 19 day streach, I won’t be seeing the water for a while

I will be closly monitoring the board, and trying to keep my finger on the pulse, while living vicariously through everyone elses posts

I don’t think there is anything more exciting in fishing. Its REALLY funny when they do it to bass baits like a zara puppy or something because they look so massive behind the tiny bait and when they break through and smash it its just like the movies.

Back out again last evening and was put back into place my the muskie gods, no fish seen.

Sounds like others are moving a few, but no takers.
