i am cursed with the left handed fishing gene. the problem i am finding is that they don’t make very many either affordable or high speed models. i am looking for a high speed lefty reel but the best one i can find is a curado with 28in. per crank. if anyone has any better info on a faster lefty reel let me know

I know the ABU Record comes in a lefty as does the Shimano Calcutta. As far as a high speed version I know Avet makes a few although they are not level wind.

i know it’s better lefty but they don’t help out us leftys by making reels for us. it’s hard to find one that’s afordable and works good. i want a calcutta b cuz i don’t have money for a te but can’t get a lefty in that model

Looking at Rollie and Helen’s Musky Shop .’09 catalog and can tell you pricing… The Records Jeremy is talking of ran last year $160-$170. The The Revo’s were running $270 and $280. Abu makes a 7000i Red at $140 and the difference between the Calcutta B and TE was $230 to $370. You can always get a Abu C3 for under a $100…

abu is junk and i will never even deal with those people again. i have broke a few red reels. a blue and a green and even broke 3 records. the worst part is they always break at the wrong time. i missed my only 50plus inch fish because my gears in the c3 stripped. both the main gear and the pinion so i called abu and they said they would replace it with warranty if i sent it back. so i did and they sent me a bill for a new reel. now that is bs customer service.word to the wise…never consider wasting money on an abu…i’d rather slam my dick in a door!

I dunno about that, but I’d agree with not wasting money on Abu’s if you’re serious about muskie fishing

The only thing I’ve found Abu products useful for was trolling

It’s deffinately worth the extra money for the Shimano Plus I’ve heard the customer service is second to none

I know how people feel about’em, didn’t think I would tickle a nerve quite so bad. I was not impressed with the 7000, but it was right-handed so I am thinking about trying the 7000i left-handed. I am buying another revo to get a winch!!! Got to go for now!!!
