I got a call thursday afternoon from Lonie at Thorne Bros saying that they had something at the shop for me I’ve got to tell you guys that if you were ever on the fence about haveing a custom rod built Thorne will put all your fears to rest. The whole process from choosing guides to reel seats, guide wraps to handle length was easy and pain less. This rod is a 9’8”xh Thorne predator with a 18”syncro cork handle (can you say easy fig 8) and at just a couple bucks more than a stock rod it was an easy choice Now olny a MONTH 1/2 till the season opens.

9’8″… Not a big musky guy, but that seems a lot longer than musky rods I have thown in the past. What’s the generally purpose of that rod, chucking bucktails? trolling? any/everything???

    Looks sweet!

Yeah 9’8″ is alot longer than most there’s olny 1 other rod like this one. The extra length is mostly for fig8’s longer rod= bigger 8’s. I got this rod built for hucking dbl13 and dbl12 buck tails and that’s it. The xh action also keeps the rod from loading heavy in a fast 8.

I had a 9′ built last year and love it. Can’t beat the length for saving the body pain casting all day, days on end either.

Oh I’m there allready there. The last month of the season I wore elbow braces on both arms and a tendon band on my left arm. if they keep eating the big stuff I’ll keep hucking it.

I’m lucky to eat 2 Advil a season and still not having to wear any braces or see a bone cracker unlike my 2 partners that are 5 and 10+ years younger than me. Hopefully we can get togeather and stick a couple this year Tim

Dude I thought an 8′ rod was a lot. What is that reel you have on it? The rod makes it look minuscule, but then the crank looks serious.

That reel is a shimano 16dc Trinidad it’s a saltwater reel made for tuna fishing but works great for burning bucktails with 47″ of line every time the handle goes around

I just walked out of the Musky expo in St Paul with a 8’6″ rod and I kept expecting somebody to ask about my surff rod..

I’m gonna take a guess that don’t fit in your rod locker?

Nice rod, even if it is a bit long for this old guy.
    Have fun.

    Nice rig there Timmy

    How’s the shoulder holding up

Are you gonna be able to throw the magnum stuff this year

I took your advice and I’m having all of my rods extended, so every rod I have will be 8-1/2″ – 9ft long.

I can’t wait til the season starts, I’m beginning to get restless
