As my hobby has grown I am realizing my current tackle storage system is no longer useful. So I am wondering what everyone else uses for their storage systems. Anything else out there besides, I believe they are called, Lakewood tackle boxes? Thanks for any input!

Tackle box

i just use a tackle bag that holds about 5 – 6 of those “whatever brand you want” tackle boxes.
at home, i have all of my tackle boxes organized, for cranks, jigs, terminal tackle, bobbers, etc etc. and then i just bring with what boxes i need. and if 6 boxes of tackle isn’t enough, i just bring additional boxes, and put them in a storage compartment in the boat.
it has worked good for me.
as far as what brand tackle bag? it is a shimano bag i bought like 10 years ago, but it is in perfect shape still, besides being faded, and has plenty of other zip up storage pockets on it. and i just purchase new plastic storage boxes as i need them, at like 4 bucks a piece.
thats just what works for me.
March 8, 2010 at 9:10 pm #850786I have been using the plano boxes but my number of baits have grown too large and since they only can accomidate 5-6 lures per box it is not practical anymore. Sorry for any confusion but I am looking for musky tackle boxes that is why I put it in the musky forum.
March 8, 2010 at 9:29 pm #850797Thre are the Just encase boxes, but they don’t look worth the money to me. I think you would get more baits in the lakewood boxes.
March 8, 2010 at 9:44 pm #850801I used to have a couple Lakewoods, but just went back to the deep Plano boxes last year. I realized I didn’t need to carry 50+ baits every time I went out. Now the baits just hang in the garage and I grab maybe 15-20 baits I think I might use on a particular outing.
March 8, 2010 at 11:38 pm #850829Lakewoods or Just In Case are the best out there. I use my Lakewoods since I boat hop alot but once I get a dedicated muskie rig I’ll build storage in the boat. I also carry a modified kitty litter pail full of bucktails, and a couple 3-4 plano boxes.
March 9, 2010 at 12:06 am #850838I have a Lakewoods box that has room for both hanging lures and plastic plano boxes. Total of 3 3700’s, 1 deep version of 3700, 2 3600’s and room for about 30 hanging lures. It works out great and is still pretty portable since i go back an forth between my boat and my dad’s boat a lot. http://www.lakewoodproducts.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=lakewood&Product_Code=A039&Category_Code=musky
March 9, 2010 at 12:59 am #850861Funny you should bring this up today Gus, I just left Bob Schmitt’s house the owner of just encase and got my custom 24″x16″x20″ box orderd. After just a year with my lakewoods box it started to selfdestruct. All I can say is Bobs cases are the most well built boxes I have ever seen. He makes a sweet adjustable box or you could go crazy like I did and get a full blown custom.
March 9, 2010 at 4:17 am #850955My Lakewoods has stood up well, use it as a platform, sits out in the rain, sun all the time, but I will be giving the just In Case a hard look at the Expo since my Lakewoods only holds about 1/3 of my stuff when its crammed packed full.

Can you elaborate on what happened to it? Is it fixable and for sale?
March 9, 2010 at 4:55 am #850965One other thing on the justencase boxes. With the see thru does your plastics heat up and melt sitting out in the boat during summer. Seems like everything would just heat up and cook in them if the top is shut.

Your plastic will be fine Bob said he put a bunch of dawgs in a box then in the oven and they were fine plus the boxes block UV rays so even though the box is clear you could leave it out in the sun all summer and the lures in the box wouldent fade.
As far as my lakewoods the slots started to break loose from the sides of the box so now hooks get stuck in all the dividers and that makes me want to go HULK on that stupid green pile. I don’t think it could be fixed unless by fixing you mean smash with a BFH.muskyman20Posts: 35March 10, 2010 at 3:25 am #851489the just encase boxes are def. worth the money! they hold a hundred times more lures than 5 or 6 plano stow aways and so far mine has held up great. i highly recommend one!
March 10, 2010 at 3:57 pm #851705a buddy of mine took a couple of 3-1/2 gal buckets, and cut a hole on the bottom so it would fit over the seat pedistal, with a 3-4″ piece of PVC for support, and a couple of notches around the perimiter of the bucket you can hang your baits
Me on the otherhand I like the scatterd around the boat look my self IMHO it kind of ads to the ambiance, aswell as it makes things intresting when your navigating around the boat in the dark
March 10, 2010 at 7:55 pm #851853I strongly recommend lakewood tackle boxes. they make a number of different sizes and style to accomidate any situation. I have some that are still in my boat after 9 seasons of guiding. they double as casting decks, you can stand on them, and they will hold up all year long. definatly worth the money!! I have tried others, and honestly I had them all break after about two seasons. lakewoods are the best out there!!

March 11, 2010 at 2:54 am #852009Lakewood’s are very nice, as I have a couple, but I tend to just use standard 3700 plano boxes alot now, as I can store them in the boat out of the way…
March 22, 2010 at 7:03 am #856013supermagnets around the boat work pretty good…. better than a pile on the floor
