Last weekend I put in a day of fishing with a buddy and had some action. Started fishing reefs with deep drop offs for the first 2 hours. Most reefs had very little vegetation. Small clumps of dying milfoil. Moved nothing! Started trolling both steap breaks and suspended bait piles, mainly 17-25ft of water for the next 2 hours. Moved nothing. Soaked suckers for the next 2 1/2 hours during the Vikes game. Had one rip out, by the looks of the minnow, it was probably a pike. Had one ski surface between our suckers and caused them to go NUTS!, but no takers. Ended the day moving and fishing a little shallower right at the moon set at 3:00pm and fish started moving. My buddy stuck a 43″ on super TR in a shallow bay with more dying weeds. I was always told to look for good green weeds, but we couldn’t find much. Shortly after the release my buddy then has a BIG girl blow up on his TR again right on a bullrush edge that pushed the lure out of the way. Would have made the day to stick her. Ended the evening with a bonus pike on a Phantom softail off a sunken island. Tough season for me, good thing I get just as big of a rush when I put my buddies on fish. We’ll almost as big Daughters Birthday this weekend – calling in sick Monday to fish ALL day. Ill give an update next week.
