I caught my PB muskie August 2008 on the Croix. I ordered a replica from LAX at the muskie expo. He didn’t think it would be done until around Christmas. I got a letter saying it was done about 2 weeks ago. When I saw the box sitting at my front door.. talk about feeling like a kid on Christmas morning. I couldn’t wait to hang it on the wall at the cabin this past weekend. I’m very happy with the job they did.

    AWESOME

I too, would love to see a photo of the fish. I really want to get a replica done also, just can’t decide on who to have do it. Rick at LAX is at the top of the list, his work is amazing. Again, congrats on the PB

The pictures I have of the fish really stink. I was fishing by myself and took a couple of quick pictures of the fish laying next to the measuring stick. With the glare of the sun, much of the markings don’t really show up on the pictures I took. The fish also had a couple of lamprey scars that weren’t put on the replica. I do think the replica probably shows more distinct markings than the fish I actually caught (or for that matter, any fish I’ve caught on the Croix). That said, I still like the job they did. The measurements I took of the fish match the replica.

Here is one of the pictures. Who would ever think you could catch a PB fish on the Croix on not be able to find anyone in the same area code to take a picture? Most days you could find a hundred boats to line up and take your picture.

Again, great fish. I love the replica, Rick is one hell of an artist

Two months early too. I am still waiting on a walleye from 13 years ago

Were you using a skier as bait?

Perhaps we can get a 2 for 1 deal

They are expensive, but well worth it being that you get to let that fish go and have the replica made down the road.

I was going to ask if he was handlining. Did that fish spool you or what.

Pretty funny. I took a day of vacation (Monday) when I caught it. The day prior, I got roped into pulling my niece and her friends on the dreaded tube at the cabin. I didn’t get rid of the ski rope handle prior to fishing on the river.

I was trolling with 2 lines (WI) when the fish hit. Of coarse the fish went straight over to my other line and I had a major mess. Ended up just cutting every piece of line I could find when it was in the net and tossed the mess on the bottom of my boat. It took me close to an hour to get my lines rigged back up to start fishing again.

I was able to compare for Fitanti’s mounts and LAX mounts at the expo. They both do fantastic jobs and their prices are pretty much the same. I think the 4 areas that separates these guys from the average taxidermist is the detail on the fins, gills, mouth, and paint jobs.

I think they both normally give a 10% discount during the expo. I was torn on whether to pay the extra dollars for the slab of wood. I think that was 120.00. I’m glad I did. How often do you have a replica made? The 10% discount covered over half of that. Their price per inch at the time was 12.50 (625.00 for a 50 inch fish). Shipping was 60.00.

Put it in a cabin? I don’t think so mine is going on the bow of my boat. That way people know what a bad a$$ I am

That’s funny. The day I got it delivered, BuckSlayer stopped by to take a look at it. He was going to help me set it on my wifes side of the bed for a night (She wasn’t home yet).

After thinking about it, I figured I would end up sleeping with it for a long time if I did that. Not sure if she would appreciate the humor as much as we did.
