To the South is Vermilion. To the North is Rainy. To the Northwest is LOTW.

Why are there no Muskie in Kabetogama & Namakin? Seems strange doesn’t it?

    There is.
Buddy pulled out a 57+” out of there, that would have competed with state record.
They were camping, the fish died, he decided to keep it.

I’ve seen it. I know the taxidermist who stuffed it. An absolute amazing fish!

Years ago when I was probably 5, my Dad pulled a pretty big Muskie out of the Namakan Narrows. No length, but I remember it being 33 lbs.

Gary, how long ago was that? I had heard stories of Muskie in those waters years ago but nobody has mentioned catching any recently.

They are there, just in very low numbers. The ones you see and hear about are BIG.

IMHO, Kab will be the next Vermillion, in say 10-15 years

Crain Lake now has a fishable population…Similarly, I’ve been fishing Kab since 1984 and I have seen muskies in the shallows while walleye fishing from the rocks more than once over the years.

I pray to God you are wrong, Bob. Kab is one of the last big lakes with a good pike population that still does not have a slot that prevents us from spearing pike. Let’s leave it the way it is for those of us that still practice the old time sport. We have lost enough already……

I’m guessing that the fall trolling pattern for Pike on Nam must start about now. Last weekend I saw more people trolling then I ever have. I think the water temp is still to warm but it is getting closer every day. I have only been up there a couple of years and to this point haven’t really discovered any Big Pike water. I’m going up again for 4-5 days this coming week to search some more. Maybe I will get lucky and run into a Muskie up there. One thing for certain whether it’s a Pike or a Muskie it’s going back in, regardless of size.

If anybody wants to share a tip or location you can send me a PM.

    Thanks!!
