OK guys, here comes a Man’s Shopping dream. The good lookin half has decided I deserve a new musky rod and reel of MY Choice (2nd time in 4 years). Any suggestions for a bait casting rig?

Is there a limit to your choice

    Or is it capped off

If there truly is no limit, I’d get a St. Croix Tournament muskie 8’6″ Heavy action rod which costs $350

Then I’d pair it up with a Shimano Calcutta 400 TE which costs $370

Thorne Bros Predator, reel depends on what you’ll use it for. Hard to beat the new Toro for general use, unless you want a blade burner then a Salstis.

I picked up one of the two customs they had built using the new Loomis “Steel” blank, side by side with the Predator, the 8″6″ Steel had a much faster taper, about the same weight (built with different cork\syn cork handle options). Now at $400+ it’s not like either rod was lacking anything, but I have to say on the showroom floor the Steel gets my vote. That bad boy coupled with a Trinidad 16, will be my next musky investment.

I went 9′ and the Preadator come in a 9′ blank not extended like a steele or sling blade would be. I played with all 3 and picked what felt best to me with the reel of choice. Goes to show what works best for 1 may not be best for the next guy.
