A couple of muskie/pike questions

How long do you make your tyger line leaders? The second question is what is the best all around muskie/pike rod? I presume I need a medium heavy fast or extra fast tip rod that is 7.5′ to 8′ long that can handle lure weights from 1oz to 4oz. I just bought some 65# PowerPro and I already have a couple packs of 20# clear tyger line all of which I hope is big enough.

If your planning on throwing some of the bigger muskie baits, I would go for a rod that is rated for more than 1 – 4 oz. That big Dunwright Walleye lure Bob throws in his videos must weigh close to 12 oz. The Super Mag Bulldog weighs 16 oz.

    Shimano Compre XH

    It’s rated for baits 2-6oz

    It’s only $120

It has a life time over the counter replacement warranty

8ft rod, soft tip with a ton of backbone, with 80lb power pro would be my suggestion. The 65lb is fine until you hit a backlash, with 65lb your gonna watch your bait going sailing if your hucking anything that has some weight to it.
My favorite rod for the big plastics is a Loomis, it was designed as a trolling rod, but it pulls double duty in my boat as a hucker

First I want to say thanks for all of the input.
I guess I need to do some more reading about this. I don’t need to launch any lures cuz my line cannot handle them. With that in mind I would also assume I need to get some 100# leader. And I still need to know what length the leader should to be, is 12″ going to be long enough?

Bob, I know one thing for sure, I can’t afford to lay $300-$350 dollars on the counter for a rod. I was looking at the Fenwick GT76XH-T, the StCroix PM80HF, and now the Schimano CPC-M76XH all of these are under $150

I have more to say but I have to get ready for my daughters wedding. This month is my B-day maybe someone will get me one.

80 to 100 lb leader should be good. 12 inches should be fine for the length. Rods, I have a Fenwick and the Shamino, both are good rods, I do find the Fenwick more comfortable to fish with. The gander mt guide series rods are nice too.

Enjoy in the wedding and happy b-day early
