Leaders and line preferences

Just got my first muskie fishing day of the summer in a few days ago and was kind of feeling I was using the wrong types of leaders for different baits. What is everyones recommendations for what kind of leaders to use with which kind of baits? Any good articles you could direct me to would be great too. Also was running 100lb. test braided Tuf-line on my rod and I think it was absorbing a lot of water because i got covered in green algae when we were fishing in some sloppy water. Line is probably 3-4 years old but I never get out muskie fishing that much so I figured it would still be fine. Also I’m not sure i really like the black and white line, its so visible in the water. It also seemed to be floating too much or something too, because I seemed to be pulling some jerkbaits out of the water alot. What kind of line does everyone like? I watched the bowman muskie episode on here again and 80lb. power pro and heavy fluoro leaders seemed to be the way to go for plastics atleast… Never used either of them but might have to try. OH, and for the report… two trips, two different lakes, no fish, no follows, hence the equipment questions…

I switched to sfuix 80lb this year and love it also use 130lb fluro leaders. The sufix doesn’t pick up as mutch water as tuf or p-pro. I would say that no muskie hunters arsenal is compleat without some big plastic dunwrites are a good choice .

One trick I used to do is use a black marker to color the first few feet of the line, it worked untill I switched to power pro.

I use 80lb Spiderwire Stealth and we make our own 100lb flourocarbon leaders. IMO the flouro leaders work pretty darn good for everthing except for walk the dog style jerkbaits/topwater b/c they will occasionally foul up. A wire leader works better for that. Whatever type of leader you use, just make sure you have good snaps and swivels! I know a lot of guys like Power Pro too. I didn’t like Tuf Line b/c I felt is was more coarse and did hold more water.

    Now with these flourocarbon leaders.
    1)you don’t get any bite offs ?
    2) do you use a barrel swivel to attach to the main line or tye direct ? (blood knot, double uni)

Just like steel leaders check them after a fish for any rough spots and get the ones with good ball bearing swivels stealth are what I use.

    I use 80lb P-Pro for Casting.

    I use 100lb P-Pro for trolling.

I use either 130lb Fluoro leaders or 7 strand steel for Spinners, and Bucktails

    or Solid steel for Jerkbaits

I’ve also started using 80 lb Power Pro. It is strong stuff. You need something very sharp to cut it. Gander Mt has a 300 yd spool for 22.00 w/ free shipping. Cabelas wants 36.00.

I use Flouro leaders for trolling and steel leaders for casting.

With the flouro leaders we use a barell swivel and crimp them and put a dab of super glue on the crimp just in case.
