Muskie Spinner Baits?

I have a tough time casting the hairpin style muskie/pike spinner baits without getting a mess. The leader fouls with the blades or loops the bait a couple times. Any ideas to fix my problem, maybe no leader?
    Thanks

I use a jerkbait leader that is solid and has no flex. You can also try to thumb the spool to keep some tension on the line preventing it from traveling further than the bait and foweling it up.

yea, bassman joe has it right,,, follow the lure on your cast and thumb the spool as it hits the water, I do that then give it a good pop to start the blade(s) spinning. works for me

Instead of a wire leader, I tie on about a 3ft section of 85lb test super-braid with a heavy barrel swivel to connect the lines. Easy to cast with the mess.

Sorry to repeat, by thumbing the spool just before entry straightens out the line and in most cases will unloop the whole deal. It also sets you up to start cranking at entry which is a very good thing to do.

Great ideas, thanks. Maybe I have been casting to violently.
