The bro and I are headed up to Canada and are planning on spending a few days looking for some big pike. Were bringing muskie rods and some baits on ‘loose u buy’ basis from a few buddies . I use my rod for cats and the line i got aint ganna cut it. I was wondering what you guys recommend for line. Would I be best to get some of that musky master stuff in 45lb or 63? What about like 80lb fire line braid, any good? Any help is greatly appreciated and if we tie into any bigguns’ ill be sure to put um up on the photo post. Thanks

80 lb Power Pro. Remember, you don’t need to put more than 100 yds on the reel – put mono backer down first. You will never regret having heavier line….

Switched all Power Pro to Cortland Masterbraid Bronzeback on my muskie gear. Seems smoother and less tendencies to backlash. When it does backlash it is much easier to pick or pull out also. Spendy though.

I personally am a Power Pro fan, but work part time at Rollie & Helen’s Musky Shop over here in Minocqua. I don’t believe that I know another guy in the store that uses it. Their experiences have not been good. Most of them are using Spectron or are looking at the Cortland Masterbraid. I got a spool of 80# Masterbraid that I am going to be spooling on this summer, just haven’t yet. As for the test, 80#. Always spool on backing or use electrician tape to prevent slippage on the spool.

The other thing is once you are set up, you are good to go for your cats as well!!!

I like my 80 lb power pro for casting

    Or 100 lb for trolling

However I’m considering 3/8″ dock line for total protection
