    I’m sorry

I forgot the most important part of the story

    The size

    She was 49-1/2″

I didn’t get an accurate girth, but she was solid all the way down to the tail

Gary thought she probabally went 24″ girth

What kind of weight would that be do you think

    Do you think 35-40 lbs

Let’s get down to brass tacks here…..
    It’s dark, it’s windy, it’s been a BEE-OTCH with boat control!
Trying to do a controlled drift down a break line while hucking spinnerbaits into the weeds.

    The boy hollers: GOT ONE!!!!
I look over, see the old brown-back……Yep, we got a ski!
I see the fish off about 15 feet from the boat, looks like a nice 42, maybe a 44″ fish. COOL!

A few battle runs and dances around the boat……finally in the net.
Got her secure, she is doing good. I’m hollering for bolt cutters, jaw spreaders, pliers…….Remember Joe: “GET ME AN F’NNNN PLIERS!!!!!!”
So, there she is in the bag, nice and calm, hooks out, camera ready, all set. I’m still thinking a 44″ pig, maaaaaaaaybe 45″ at best.
Then I try to lift the sow up over the side of the boat.
HOLY BALLS!!!!! SHE HAD SOME GIRTH!!!!!
Then I finally realized how long she was…..
I measured her 3 times. She was an HONEST 49.5″ Sorry Joe, maybe if she didn’t have the sag in her belly when I measured, she might have hit 50″.

Congrats plunge that’s a pig I would say 20-22″ girth we’ve got 5 49’s this season none bigger than 22″ should push low to mid 30lbs.

    Thanks guys

I wasn’t sure on the weight exactly, but I know that I could hardly lift her

Gary I’m not to concerned about it being 50″, I’m just happy to be on the board finally

    With a PB to boot

Hopefully I can catch up to you Timmy

    Probabally wishful thinking though

    Man I love it

It was a bit of a Clustie, I could just hear the Benny Hill music playing in the backround

I’m just glad it all worked out

    1. We both got to keep our fingers
    2. We wern’t stuck by any hooks
    3. She swam away to fight another day

    lots-of-luck

for Joe and Gary, way to go guys. Joe keep at it, fine example of how persistence pays off.

Tim Schmitz it was nice seeing you a few weeks ago at the ramp, keep up the effort, you’re a machine no doubt.

Hope to see a lot of fall fatties posted up during the next two months.

I need to quit creating myself projects around the house and try to do some fishing for once. Oh and then there are the kids, wife, job hunt….

I got a 45.5″ pike with a 23.5″ girth on the wall. This pig had one helluva girth! I have to state I don’t think she was anything less than 22″, very easily more. Sure wish we would have measured her, because she was really thick across the back!

WTG Plunge and guide Gary!!! For sake of conversation, according to the formula at 22″ girth its close enough to 30# to call it 30# (29.95#). At 24″ girth, it comes in just over 35# (35.64#), so at 23″ girth it must be 32-33#’s. Plunge, do you want those Viper’s now???

I had the day off today so I figured to heck with 45 degrees and wind and rain…was out for 6 hours and saw 6 fish. This is the only one that made it to the net. 39 inches.

Do you think this is a Tiger? I thought the same thing, but it is from Bald Eagle. Which according to the DNR has only had Leech Lake strain fish stocked since 1994, and the odds of a natural Hybrid occurring in Bald Eagle seem really low.

The tips of the tail are rounded….isn’t that one of the characteristic features of a tiger?
