Mississippi river musky question……….

What is the farthest pool down that anyone has caught a musky, or heard of one being caught?

With the river cleaning up a little more this past decade, is it a matter of time before we see an occasional esox from say, pool 8 or lower?

An occasional river musky has been seen on the lowest end of the Wisconsin river also. Think the Miss. below PDC. is a little too dirty, or water temps to high to make a suitable home for a fish or two?

The habitat and forage is there, the skis are not………….yet

I caught one here on Pool 16 two years ago. I suspect it went over the spillway from Lake George though. Nonetheless, it was a Musky.

there was a 40″+ caught on the Black River of Pool 8 last year I believe. Bob Lamb did a story on it. I have heard of a number, with pictures, of musky being caught on 9.

I’ve caught small hybrids as close to the Mississippi as Woodman Lake just west of Boscobel on the Wisconsin. Have never caught or witnessed any caught on the father of all waters.

A friend of mine caught a 36″ on the upper end of Pool 8 a couple years back during a bass tourney. I think that same year a 40″+ was taken out the same pool in the Black River. The rumor has it though these fish are from a stocking of the La Crosse River near West Salem a few years back. I think I read that the DNR stocked several brood stock size muskies in Lake Nechonec and the river below it not too long ago.

My brother has caught two very small fish through the ice in the woodman area too Bos. Was that how you caught yours or open water?

Open water. Toothy criters are notorious for running up the Woodman channel on warm sunny fall afternoons on a feeding binge.

Those Black River muskies could have made it all the way sown the river as they occur further north. I just don’t remember if they are indigenous to the Black. I am pretty sure they were/are stocked in Lake Arbutus.
