The past 3 years my buddy Robb and I have been picking a different lake to fish early November. This year is was my turn to select the lake. I had narrowed my choices to Middle and Upper Eau Claire, Big Sissabagama, Bone and Big McKenzie. In the end, I selected Big McKenzie. We took Monday off work and hit the lake by 9:00. It was freaking cold (22 degrees). We started casting and soaking suckers. We saw our first fish about 20 minutes into the morning (low 40 inch fish). It didn’t appear to agressive. The only other excitement we had over the next 3.5 hours were frozen eyes on our rods and me throwing a brand new bull dog into the depths of Big McKenzie as my line snapped.

At 12:30 we figured it was time to try something different. We started trolling crank baits. About an hour into this, Robb set the hook on this fatty. What a great way to break in my new net. It taped out at 47.5 inches and had a 22 inch girth. The fish was Robb’s PB. Its amazing at how quickly your PMA (positive muskie attitude) can change. Within the next hour, we caught 2 more 34 inch fish.

Sure beat the heck out of working on Monday.
