Fall is in the air

Got a chance to hit the water for a full day on Sunday. We got on the water at sunrise and right from the get go we had fish moving. Water temps in the low 50’s only meant one thing, and that was shallow fish. We targeted 2-6 feet of water with small cranks and blades. The cranks were the clear ticket. The fish were in the shallow weeds, most of which we found to be dead and dark in color. We twitched crank all day and had a blast doing it. We only managed one muskie in the net but had two others that were darn close. Hooks bent open on one right at the side of the boat, and we lost another one shortly after the hook set. Shallow weeds and pencils are full bait fish and the big toothies are right there with them. It’s fall and downsizing is not the norm, however with what we had going this day, small baits were what they wanted. At days end we boated a bunch of pike, landed one muskie and lost two others. What a great fall day to spend on the water.

    Happy Lunge Hunting
