I just got back from my first musky fishing experience. It was hard fishing, spent about 20 hours on Mille Lacs between Friday and Saturday had one strike the head of a pounder bull dawg, but other than that and didn’t get as much as a follow. I’m still pretty flustrated about the whole episode; I’d been looking forward to the trip for about 4 months.
But now I’m now getting excited for my every other year trip to Canada (still a year off, but it’s never too early to get ready!!!). Up to this point I’ve been addicted to spoons and spinning gear, but I’m looking to change things up a bit and get more and bigger fish! I’ve purchased a 7’3 MH St. Croix Avid Series rod paired up with a Shimano Curado 300D reel, and am thinking about getting a 7′ Heavy power rod for jerkbaits and pairing that up with a 300 Cardiff (Any insight on the Cardiff would be helpful too).
To get back to the subject of the topic, while fishing (not catching) for muskie we threw the Double Cowgirl quite a bit, especially at night. I was wondering if this would work well for pike, or if it would be overkill? Would the double showgirl be more appropriate to use?
I’ve also been looking at the Big Hammer swimbaits, has anyone had experience with these? Thanks a bunch everyone.
