Hey every one I know this might be a bit premature, but I was just thinking about my plan of attack for the upcoming open water season

I have been thinking of putting Bone on the short list of regular waters to target.

Has any one ever been out there and if so do you have any suggestions as to which areas to target and the types of baits any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Bone has some massive weedbeds. I’ve had luck targeting docks out there also. Lots of muskie. Not a ton of size but lots of numbers. pretty good LM bass fishing also

I’ve only fished it a few times and under tough conditions. Topwater baits have worked for us out there and the “walk the dog” type lures recieved the most action. Also, the “walk the dog” jerkbaits like the phantom produced a couple nice fish to strike. Lots and lots of follows out there, which is obviously an indication that this is a big time “numbers” lake with a lot of fish in the 35″-42″ range. However, we have seen one fish that was 53″ plus. Definitely a lake worth trying and I would focus on fishing this lake during the week because this lake receives a ton of pressure and recreation on the weekends.

When I talked to you the other day you kind of got me thinking about this lake I decided to do some research and you’re probabally the 2nd person to tell me about the numbers, so I’m deffinately pumpped, because if I’m seeing fish I’ll be able to work on my technique to get em to bite

Bone is a pretty good lake… Lots of #s. IMO i would fish it during the week. Lots of traffic on weekends. Work small gliders fast and erratic. Also drop off the edges w/ mag dogs. These fish see alot of lures, so speed may help along w/ nite fishing, we tried nite fishing a few times w/ nothing, but i would imagine it could be good out there at nite.

Fishing Bone during the week is a very good suggestion. I haven’t fished the lake in a number of years. But seeing fish was never a problem. And they can literally be everywhere. If it looks good, fish it. If it doesn’t look good, there’s probably fish there too. At least that’s what it was like when I used to fish it 10+ years ago.

It sounds like this lake would be a good lake to build my skills and confidence I was looking at my map book, and found tons of spots to check out I’d say that you’re probabally right though if it looks good I’ll be there, but if they aren’t then I guess I’m just gonna have to get off the beaten path and try something that they don’t see everyday I’ve been reading alot of old Muskie Hunter articles and I never realized just how many proven methods there really are that get shuffeled to the back of the memory and then forgotten

I caught what I think was the same fish twice about a week apart in the exact same spot out by the islands (sharp drop between the islands) fishing a spinnerbait for bass (red/white).

We had a bass tournament a few years back as well and one guy caught 9 on a jig plunking for bass. He said they were all small (relatively speaking), but I still have to consider 9 muskies of any size a good day

That’s more bass than you catch in a day!! You should switch to muskies.
