A pair from Mille Lacs

Here’s a pair of toothy critters we caught on Friday night. A suspending super rogue run high over the tops of the weeds on a short line was the ticket. Butch had his eyes closed when we snapped the pic of the muskie. Not because he was shy instead I think it had more to do with the fact that the fish had chomped down on 3 of his fingers and he was trying to meditate his way into his “happy place” while I was trying to take the photo. The poor guy bled like a stuck pig for about 30 minutes. Then the pike happened along and took his mind off his blood loss. Both fish were in the low 40’ish range. I apologize for the blurry pics. Apparently the muskie managed to splash a lone water drop on the lens and I didn’t notice until later in the evening.

Nice job James!! Nice fish, and anytime you get a musky, it’s a good day. Congrats!

Dandy fish, that is a pretty solid Pike, what did she weight low to mid 20’s?

We didn’t weigh either of those fish but I don’t think the pike would have gone over 20 – 21 lbs. I would guess in the 19# – 20# range. She was a fat beast of a fish but in all honesty it is hard for a 40″ =/- pike to weight in much over 20 lbs. Most falls we run into a couple pike in the mid-40’s that would certainly hit the mid-20 pound range but we didn’t see anything that big this year. Yet.

Here’s a mid-40 inch fish caught during a guide trip last fall by Dan French. Now this fish would have weighed in at that low to mid 20 pound range. Again, we didn’t weight her but you can see the difference a couple extra inches makes with these fish.

Nice Looks like you’ll be splitting your time between guiding for wallwyes and Muskies
