I have read before that you should do a figure 8 after every cast. I am very new to musky fishing but I would think that if the water is fairly clear and you do not see a follow, it is just wasting time that you could be making your next cast and covering more water. Also, what if you fish at night? Do you just do a blind figure 8?

I was taught to figure 8 after every cast. I don\’t find it a waste because sometimes that is the only way to see a fish that day But for the most part, you just never know where they are coming up from…..alot of times it is up from under the boat.

I would have to agree with musky girl. I\\\\\\\’ve had fish come from right under the boat and I never saw them coming. As far as doing an 8, I\\\\\\\’d say it doesn\\\\\\\’t have to be an 8, it can be an oval, 8, or an L turn. I perfer an oval just because if you don\\\\\\\’t do the 8 just right a fish will just swim off. I figure there\\\\\\\’s just too much to screw up on the 8, so I\\\\\\\’d recomend doing something, but the oval is easily done and you can get yourself in the habit of doing it EVERY TIME.

I figure 8 after every cast, and I have had enough strikes on them that I wont stop. All but one of the hits I\’ve had on it this year I never saw the fish trailing. They either come from under the boat, or just hang back far enough that I haven\’t seeen them untill the strike. Sure does get the blood pumping though.
