I\\\’ve been seeing posts on these lakes for quite some time. I\\\’m looking to give them a shot. I know there are some special restrictions as far as using an outboard motor, but can I take my boat out there, but not use the outboard. I also understand that I need a special permit from the DNR, but how do I get one. I was also wondering if any one could offer up some suggestions as to how to approach these lakes and what I should be tossing. Thanks for the help

Sorry I havent been keeping up on the metro lakes this summer. Its been a busy year.

You can have your outboard on the lakes, you just cant use them…. including power loading onto the trailer. I am 95% sure they got rid of the permit thing(was free) for boats on the lakes… they were never enforced anyhow.

How to approach these lakes… what are you intending to fish for? Calhoun can be a very decent musky/walleye/bass lake, Harriet also has a population of nice walleyes if you can find them, and some huge muskies.

Let me know what you will be targeting and I will try to give some better info.

The permit is no longer needed. Parking can be a real pain at times though. Calhoun has street only parking just make sure to read the signs around the neighborhood as far as parking restrictions go. Harriet does have a lot but theres a 50/50 chance it will be full when you get there. If it\’s not you can pay the parking box in the bandshelter lot and put the ticket on your dash. Also, you will get ticketed in the Harriet lot after 10 PM.
