Personally, I always try and get out when the weather turns super crappy after a nice steady pattern. Although not the safest times to be out my most productive have always been before, during, and a few hours after a good ol’ nasty summer storm. Always seems to spark a nice little feeding frenzy at some point during these times….Sometimes a short little feeding window of 10-15 minutes and sometimes a hot bite for hours on end.

So what are some of your favorite gotta get out there times besides the obvious full moon/ new moon periods?

Right before a front comes through has paid off more than a few times. The other thing that Bob has been tracking closely this year is the moon rise/set periods. Specifically he has seen flurries of activity the first 45 minutes after the moon rises. Coincidence…? Who knows.

I really like fishing at night with little/to/ no moon visible…..preferably the end of the waning moon. Fishing at night there is less traffic and always a good surface bite . For some reason the skis seems to shut down on the full moon…..havent figured it out completely, just noticed the pattern. So, dark nights are the target for me

Any time works for me, but if I had a choice I’d say the day before a high pressure system hits. Second might be the 3 days before a full moon….

i dont know abot you guys, but i night fished for years and the full moon for me was always a dud unless it was raining or or cloudy. 3 days before and 3 days after were always better. Just my thoughts. DK

Same for me, full moons are duds. A few of my serious fishing buddies, we were talking about the same topic about 2 weeks ago and pretty much agree that full moons arent to good.

Full moon in the fall seems to work for the walleye guys on Mille Lacs. Every year they’re getting into some really big ski’s during this event.

I’ve heard that there’s a biological difference between MN and WI strain muskies. Around a full moon is supposed to be better in MN while the period surrounding the new moon is better in WI. I haven’t the time to really put this to the test but the other night, I got a strike just as the waning moon was beginning to rise around 1:00am. The difference in the strain is supposed to make a difference in their abilities to see.
