So…
I just got off a small local lake with my wife. The plan was for a leisurely suntanning/small amount of bass fishing and swimming trip for the evening. Of course I happened to bring two muskie lures, one rod, and luckily a huge net along for our three hour tour. As she lounged in the back of the boat I casually flipped some tubes, sipped a Hamm’s the beer refreshing, and proceded to get skunked!
The green carp were not biting. Usually this particular lake is a guarantee for some action from some lil’ peanuts along with the random 4-5 lb. fish.
After about an hour or so of no action we both noticed panfish in about 15 feet of water or so going berzerk. Upon seeing this little marvel of the fishing world I decided to switch things up and start tossing some “real” lures in that general direction. About four casts later he or she slammed my Phantom 3/4’s of the way in like no strike I’ve ever experienced before.
Instantly, this fish was taking out drag on an ABU Record reel( with the drag cranked down) like it was a Zebco 33 with a 50 Lb. carp. I wondered to myself what the heck was going on as I know there’s only Tiger muskies and some nice northerns in this particular lake. Once the battle of man versus beast had gone on for a good 10 minutes or so I thought for sure I must have a 60″+ mutant fish. Lo and behold my wife was finally able to net the fish after about six to eight power runs and I landed my personal best Tiger Muskie. This fish probably was a state record but we decided to let it go. Pictures will follow tomorrow once they are developed.
