Anyone here fishing the MMTT Metro muskie tourney tomorrow?
I signed up this year, first time for me in this event.
For those that have fished in it before, how many people do you expect to sign up? I read that in 04′ there was 400 people quite the tournament

I had talked to Hartman last week and there were 290 signed up at that point. I would imagine that there will be 350-400 people again this year. Waht lake are you fishing Mark? Dan and I will be on Forest. Good luck to you

Hey, Lars, my back feels good and strong

I will be on the St. Croix. I heard it was added and that was a good enough reason for me to sign up…I guess we will see how the Croix stacks up against some of the better metro lakes.
    Good luck tomorrow!

I’ll be fishing Forest as well. My first choice sleeper lake has zero weeds left as of yesterday.

If it is weeds you are looking for Forest certainly will not disappoint. Worst it’s been in years out there.

That’s what I’ve heard. I haven’t been out there yet this year. Hopefully my secret spots aren’t too weed choked.

BTW..My number was 367. So I would assume at least 400 entrants. Hopefully there’s not 150 of those fishing Forest.

Good luck out there men I was debating about signing up but, will have to babysit until the lady gets off, which is too much time deducted, not to mention ramps packed by the time I get there. Hope you all find giant’s at the end of your lines. Might have to pick some different lakes for the pm since those lakes listed will probably pounded to dust by night.

Speaking of this tournament. Anyone know why they haven’t added Minnetonka or the Minneapolis lakes to the event? Seems like it would take quite a bit of pressure off some of the other waters.

I would assume becuase Tonka is the lake the Championship is held on. It is also nice to have a few lakes that the non-tournament anglers can get away too during the tournament.

    I could be wrong. Anyone?

I was told that Jason Hammernick’s partner won it. They were on Forest until 10:00 am and hadn’t seen a fish so they loaded up and went to Eagle. He got a 51″ and a low 40’s. I was told that 5th place was a 45″.

Bobby and I stayed out on Forest all day. We saw 10 fish, Bob boated a low 30’s, I had another short fish on, and then at about 2:00 Bob had a higher 40’s fish on that hit right next to the boat on the north end of first. Bob called a poor hook-up as I was grabbing the net and with one headshake she unbuttoned the hook. Of the follows we had, the first of the day was definitely 50″ caliber, and the rest were all solid low to mid 40’s. All but one of our follows came on the Dunwright Likelike Lures, including the Pike, Panfish, and a prototype that is in the form of a Walleye. Bob’s short fish was on a crappie colored panfish model, and the fish I had on was on a white Bulldawg. We talked to one guy that boated a fish, he was in a Lake Assault boat, he said they boated a 45″ earlier in the morning.

I would say overall we did, most of the fish we had were hot but were one timers. We GPS’d every follow and returned to each in a rotation about every half hour, I don’t believe we ever saw the same fish twice. The water clarity of first was attrocious, barely a foot, but when the wind started to rip oddly enough it started to get better. Bob and I guessed the brownish hue was isolated to the top two feet and once the lake stirred up some cleaner water came to the surface. Bob’s first fish to follow, the 50, was so hot I thought Forest was going to be the place to be. Not to rub it in, but when she was chasing Bob took her across the bow and banged his rod on the trolling motor, the sound spooked her instantly otherwise I think that fish was going to go. We had some other friends out and they didn’t see a fish. We saw most of our fish in deeper water, out to 19′. Didn’t really even mess around shallow as everyone was pounding the beds. Oh well, hard to say if we had a chance at some cash or not as we didn’t get to measure either of our two good chances. That’s Musky fishing.

The action was good, but I made a few bonehead errors that cost me fish. The first fish of the morning, I did something that I have not done in years, I bumped the trolling motor on the 8 . Nothing like watching a big muskie go from hot, to …see ya bye. I was so focused on the fish that I lost sight of where I was going with the 8. Would this fish have eaten, I have no idea, but we never saw her again, and I know I the bed on this fish. I also lost another fish later in the day as Dan stated above, this one I can’t seem to get out of my mind. The fish came up and clobbered the bait right at the side of the boat, I knew instantly the hooks were not in a good place, and that this fish was going to pop, and pop it did. All I could do was freespool, and hope that she did not shake, well shake she did. I watched a the swim away. With a heavy heart, I looked at Dan, and I don’t think that either one of us said a thing for about 5 minutes. the feeling of loosing a big fish at your feet is not something that I wish apon anyone, but you know what, that is what keeps me going. I had a great time in the tourny

Bob don’t feel bad, I know its easier said than done though. I lost a nice fish in the 42″ range out on the croix. I was pulling a super Xrap and I had a fish come right out from under the boat, I went into the oval at the boat, she turned and just clobbered that bait. In all the caos I didn’t even put the screws to her, so after the ensuing battle she managed to un-pin herself and swim away. I was absolutely pissed This was my first chance of the year, not to mention It would’ve been my first fish caught casting , so I know how you feel.
