While I’m sure the vast majority of us use a hard wire leader.

Some of those hard wire leaders come with a swivel.

I really don’t care for the swivels at all and generaly cut them off. I think it can deter the action.

You guys leave those swivels on or cut them off?

I either read or heard that Joe Bucher lost a giant fish because the snap on a very heavy duty leader opened. He now only uses split rings. So lure action might not be the only good reason to cut the snap swivel off…

I am very partial to the Wisher J10B jerkbait leaders. It has no snaps, but uses a cork screw design for taking lures on and off.

I will continue to use leaders…. until all that I own are destroyed. After that, it’s heavy duty lines with heavy duty snaps, clasps, cross locks, or whatever you call them. I’ve never noticed the lure action to suffer so much from the connection as mush as it’s reaction to the leader wire itself. Using the heaviest Power Pro I can find, I’m making leaders with that stuff instead. Line has more flexibility and with no memory, the lure can do it’s thing.
