Does anyone know why the dnr has placed the 48 inch limit on some lakes and not others? When i looked at the list i did not see some of the lakes that i fish. I saw lakes on the list that are very rarely if at all targeted for muskie fishing. Why would they not just change the limit to 48 inches across the board?

I believe that the DNR is still working on getting many more lakes up to the 48 inch min.
In the past, just about all the 48 inch minimum lakes were “brood stock” lakes. where they would get the eggs for their hatchery rearing. they admittantly only got to one or two lakes when they would have their quota. so many of those lakes did not have trap nets for egg harvest.

Usually it is public input that keeps these things from changing quickly. MN had a committee together to make recommendations as to what to do with the regulations and the last I heard it all had to go to public input sessions yet. I have been pretty out of touch lately but that was the last I heard.

In the new regulation book for 2007 there is a whole list of new muskie lakes with the new 48inch regulations. Most every major muskie lake in minnesota has the new regulation.
I just noticed there is a handfull of lakes that are not on the list that i think should be and others that are on the list that probably don’t even have fishable numbers in the lake.
I am all for the new regulation i just don’t know why some are covered and some are not.
