Holy smokes was it brisk out there on the water today! I shared the boat with Ryan McMahon out on White Bear looking for one of those “last shots” at an open water muskie. I really don’t have much to report other than that my body is now officially ready for winter’s worst. Did I mention it was COLD?!
The muskies decided to lay low most of the day…. we fished sunup to sundown for two bites. We missed one. We stuck the other that was in the 43″ – 44″ range. Not a bad fish for a guy that fished muskies one time all summer. As a good friend of mine is known to say… it was better than a sharp stick in the eye.
As for presentation – we dragged big suckers under floats along deep weedlines. OF course we only had two bites all day so maybe this info should be considered as what NOT to do.
The bite was tough but if I had to do it all over again I wouldn’t have traded a minute of it for anything. Let’s just say my sense of humor meshes with Ryan’s and we’ll leave it at that.
For those waiting for ice… we had skim ice forming in sheets in the boat harbor at sundown. It won’t be long!
