How has the action been lately in the metro? I’m assuming with these stable sunny days it should be picking up if it hasn’t already.. If I could get my boat out of the shop already…its been over 2 weeks…. Anyway, I need some updates so I don’t go insane!

I haven’t heard to much lately, but with this warm weather I’m not sure how much longer we’ll have to fish

Fishing has been picking up a bit. I boated a 50″ on July 3rd before going up north for the 4th… I’ll get around to writing a proper report on here soon…

I would say that it has been pretty darn slow in my opinion. I have been getting out once or twice a week and have seen fish every time, but they have been really lazy. I havent had one yet even make an attempt to go for the bait or engage in the 8. Water temp was 76 on Saturday morning.

The boat is running like a champ! Moved one fish today about 45″ and had one blow up and miss a top raider. Wasn’t able to fish long but good to be back out there.

    Sounds like a good day

After almost 2 weeks off the water, I’ll be on the water for the next 2 days so hopefully I’ll have something to report back on

The deeper edges have started going alright now. There was a serious lull the last few weeks. I think with this hot weather the night bite is going to be awesome. I can already hear the tin can’s jingling in the night air. Going up on top and inside of good shallow weeds is a great dawn dusk spot.

Phantoms, DCGs, Dussas, Flatsticks, Psycho sister. Nothing new there.

I was out yesterday 7/9, no muskies for me

But I did manage a really nice 35″ Pike on a lemon ends bulldawg

I’m alright with the pike though, cause it showed me that the one man net job needs a little work

The open water bite prevails. Trolling big blades fast. Otherwise I have heard some of the mid lake structure on Tonka has picked up. Blades have been the ticket again!

I HATE blades but I should really fish them more. I just feel like everyone and their mother throws them and they don’t look like a baitfish but man to they work!

I caught my first fish (40 inches) last weekend on the new Trolling Girl I picked up at the expo this year. I really like that way it trolls. It definitely stays below the surface better than the regular DCGs.

Yeah, it’s a crazy lure. Everybody throws them, but they flat out work. Somebody in my boat is almost always throwing blades, when fish are aggressive, they chomp on blades. Trolling them can be a tough thing to get into but stick with it for a little bit and get some confidence built up. It can be a deadly tactic for putting numbers in the boat!

Fished from 5-9 this morning and didn’t move a thing. I was shocked; we fished in thick cabbage making contact and the deeper edge and no life to be found.

Before I became halfway descent with my boat control, I use to troll blades all the time

I trolled blades for an entire summer once, back when I first started fishing muskies and it was AMAZING

I was even fishing a body of water that is Notoriously hard to fish

We put 10 fish in the boat for that year, and lost several others

I can’t even imagine if I had been fishing a lake known for it’s numbers

It could’ve been an epic season

I’ve always wanted to troll blades but I feel like I don’t have the equipment to troll them yet. I have a NaCl, avid, and a 6600.

Trolling is probabaly the cheapest thing you can do in Muskie fishing

It doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. All you need is a 7-8ft fiberglass trolling rod, and a line counter reel and that’s it. Both of my combos probabaly cost $150-200 each, so it’s very economical

You can troll pretty much any bait you regularly cast. I use to troll topwaters, and we had success. We mainly use to troll blades, but feel free to use your imagination and be creative because you may just get bit

Had a rip trolling and a nice follow last night. Fish should be going soon.

Trolling also can be Extremely cheap. Loosen up the drag a touch so it’s not buckled down, and start trolling! If you find it to be enjoyable and worth while then invest in a few trolling setups. I am going to give it a few hours tonight and see what comes of it. I’ll most likely be slinging blades, topwater and big rubber. If I’m feeling overzealous, maybe even a little bit of trolling.

I enjoy trolling when putting around the lake on the pontoon (yep.. I’m that guy. ). Got the first fish on a trolling girl on the 4th of July weekend (with my family and college buddy Tom and his family). Got the second fish trolling a jerk bait this past Sunday.

    Nice fish

Is that the family cabin Lake? It seems like you really like to troll that lake. Do you do much for casting out there?

Congrats on getting on the board with a couple dandys

Thanks Joe. Yes, I troll quite a bit whenever taking a pontoon cruise with family and friends. It is the lake we have the cabin on. I don’t cast nearly as much as I troll on our lake. It is harder to find time to get out by myself to cast.

I can’t seem to find a pattern so far. Anyone onto something? We’ll move a few one day the nothing the next.

“Got the second fish trolling a jerk bait this past Sunday.”

Gotta ask the question – – how do you troll a jerk bait?

I’ve always heard, on a short leash in the propwash

The same way I troll other lures. The jerkbait lures I use dive between 6 – 8 ft deep and have a good back and forth motion.

I would say this has been one of the most frustrating starts to a season in a while in my boat. I also don’t think that I am the only that can’t figure out a pattern. I am going to start giving the night shift a try here pretty soon.
