    I have a feeling the long standing MN state record Muskie is going to fall this year, not sure why but feel as though it’s due.
    Any thoughts on which body of water will give her up?

    Keep watching my reports… And stay tuned to find out!!

    I moved up to vermilion last spring in belief that it has the best shot at the 57-60 inch potential. That being said I am kind of doing a science experiment to figure if my hypothesis is true.

    I have been fortunate enough to have 3 fish over the 55 mark in my frabill but nothing over the 56.25 monster of 2011! I can’t imagine these fish with fall weight on. It almost gives me shivers.

    According to some, Sugar Lake also has a few biggies in her

    Last year Mille Lacs put 2 potential state record fish in the net but both fish were released.

    It was caught and released last year by Roger Ecklund on Lake Millacs

    She was a very healthy 56″ x 29″

    That = 58.87 lbs

    Yep, Roger’s fish was a super tanker and almost a virtual lock to be the state record. Pretty cool to think that his fish and others like it are still swimming in Mille Lacs.

    That’s why we do it, for that one chance to hit the JACKPOT

    The odds are increasing every year! I started in the early 80’s and a mid 40″ was pretty nice, 50″ was still the benchmark but not as common

    The obvious choice is the pond but I have a strong feeling there are a few MN lakes that could be holding a state record. Big V, and Pelican would be my next choices.

    Why isn’t anyone mentioning Lake of the Woods? An Outdoor Life article from last year had it listed as only one of two U.S. bodies of water that has begun to show CONFIRMED 60″ catches. The other lakes in the article were all Canadian and the topic was on the possibility of the world record falling anytime soon. A few Canadian bodies are hitting 65 inchers! It would seem to me that a MN lake producing fish up to 60″ in length would be a strong contender for a new state record holder……. As with any body of water, the trick is getting them to bite!

    I think LOTW isn’t as much of an option because most of the best muskie water in LOTW is in Canada. There is some good muskie water up near the NW angle that is still in MN, but even for those staying in the NW Angle at a camp in MN most of the muskie fishing is done in Canadian water.
