Nipigon Pigs of summer

June on Nipigon with high water is like taking candy from a baby! The biggest fish is yet to come caught by none other than bigpike, should be posted in a week or so at 19# 43.5″. Crushed a chart / titanium spinner bait torpedo shot out of the lily pads. The kid aka “George” as his uncle calls him never caught anything bigger than a crappie before this trip Notice the depth finder reads 4.7 ft. as we were fishing a spring fed feeder creek in the back of this bay. Fish were boiling every where, we actually pitched back into a little 10′ by 20′ pocket maybe 2′ deep and caught 7 nice fish in a row. I call this fishing combat fishing! These two brutes measured in at over 40″ and the kids at 17# and John’s at 18#. As it goes we had chances at more fish in this size range but either lost them or missed them I am almost peeing my pants with anticipation of my trip next summer.

Very nice!! I am strongly considering a trip to L Nipigon next year. Did you do any walleye fishing? Where did you stay to access Nipigon? Closest place I know is Pasha Lake Cabins, which I’ve been to a few times…

Seeing those pics brings back some awesome memories. I was up there about 5 years ago and 9 guys landed somehting like 30 fish over 40″. We were there on Memorial weekend fishing in feeder creeks just like you. I have a 47″, 26lb on my wall from my first ever trip there. There is just something fun about catching 40″ pike like they are sunfish!

Trapsht – we stayed at King’s Landing. Not sure how it works exactly but the group I went with has been going for years and knew the reservation chief or something? His name was Brian King and allowed us to stay on Res Land and we payed him cash It was $20 a night per person or something but there was zero amenities. Generators for power and a hole in the ground for you know what

Love that second picture. The red coloring of the fish is very cool.

That fish was bleeding thru its skin because it was played to long, the kid was a rookie and I helped him as much as I could. The fish was quickly released and swam away though very tired. Hopefully it fully healed and is bigger next year. The cool clean water in this lake makes for slow growing fish. In talking to a MNR biologist who ages fish he told me a fish in that class is close to 30 years old. It is a preciuos commodity and it makes me angry when I see guys fillet. But what can you do if they are following the rules other than try and teach them about CPR and protecting the resource. If they were my rules it would be all CPR except for shore lunch size fish.
